Just gone to put this on the calender and noticed- it's Mothers Day

Not sure if I'll get away with this one, however, maybe with the strategically placed sticker (saying rideout) hiding the words 'Mothering Sunday' perhaps I can plead ignorance

sounds like you have some fuelling issues. Should be able to do the whole day on onme tank, especially as it's all gonna be ridden at 'tick over' pace.

Have the carbs been balanced or do you have a very heavy throttle hand ?

Ok the plan is coming together, so far other half is ok with it, taking couple of days off owed by work on the Mon and Tues so can ride to my Dad's on Sat afternoon ( lives in Cullompton), do the ride out on Sun and stay at a mates on Sun eve ( Exeter), then ride back home on Mon morn taking as many B roads as poss! Might even try to follow the old A30 route from before the dual carridgeway days! Any one got any late 80's or early 90's Devon and Cornwall maps they could lend me or web sites that might help me suss whats left of the old road?

I'm gonna do a bit more research on this and if it looks good I'll open it up in a new thread if any one fancies joining me! Sorry to ramble just forming an idea while typing !

just use google maps.

I use it for planning all my rideouts. It tells you the road number and you get to see all the lovvely curves

The majority of the route is still there ......

From Exeter, out through Alphington to Ide, then it runs sort of alongside the dual carriageway through Pathfinder Village to Tedburn t Mary, then on to Chriton Bishop, Crockernwell, Whiddon Down, Owlsfoot, Sticklepath then on into Okehampton and out to Sourton. From there it's on to Bridestowe, Lewtrenchard, Lewdown and on into Launceston. This is where you run into trouble and the road starts to diasappear beneath the new dual carriageway ..... I'm not sure how much of the original road is left between Launceston and Bodmin, but to be honest that section is probably the best bit of dual carriageway on the whole route anyway. From Bodmin to Fraddon the old old A30 remains running through Victoria and Indian Queens, you then have a short section of dual carriageway up to the roundabout for the Truro road through Trispen. The A30 from there to the A390 junction (can't remember the junction name ) is the original single carriageway, them from said roundabout you keep to the North of the dual carriageway down through Blackwater to Scorrier then the old road exists all the way to Penzance (and even on to Lands End) via Carn Brea, Camborne, Hayle, etc., .....

I reckon its the latter, I do tend to go out for 30 minute bursts and gently thrash it! I thought it was typical of R6's as they rev so high, gonna investigate with a few longer runs before March, still a bit of a superbike virgin to be honest!

Yeah I remember bits of it, was thinking of using B roads where the original A30 was just turned to dual carridgeway, just want to make the ride back fun and interesting! Cheers for the Devon info though I'll get the maps out tomorrow and start making notes !

Badger, I can talk you through the old A30 route if you want, used to trevel it even school holiday with my dad in the lorry plus my early bike years returning from events.

Probably better to make your way back to the A39 and down (reverse of where we went with Adam last summer).
