It's not that bad.
Use it just before an MOT to test your front brakes.

the roads on the hill aren't too bad for a bike, going up or down, it's the corners that cause the problems, they are damn tight.
you ridden porlock hill funky ?

i know in the past on summer rideouts, alot of riders in the novice/newbie group have avoided going up the hill let alone down it
i know there is an alternative road that takes a smoother incline/decline but by all accounts this road is non too newbie friendly either.
it's a fun route other than that
Porlock hill is fine, when Mike J and Sharrie where down from wales a couple of years ago they went back that way, sharrie was a bit worried about it having heard of it but never ridden it before, but mailed me when she got back to say what is all the fuss about that hill,
she was riding an Africa twin at the time so a heavy ole boot to do it on, but take ya time and enjoy it, dont bother stopping in Porlock though, all tea rooms and cream teas, i can give ya hairier hills around here, one i use i go most of the way down with the back wheel scrabbling for grip on the gravel,
mind you riding dual sport /more upright bikes is an advantage in that kinda situation
I cannot make it this sunday my missuses aunt has hired a whole train on the west somerset railway for her birthday, she is buying us dinner and all, not going to turn that down , so we will be taking a steady steam powered plod through the somerset countryside, i

I would have to agree,
Porlock hill is not really novice friendly, although both ways there is a toll road just before which you can take with an easier incline and even more scenic.
