Gsxr 1000 or R1, choice depends on whether you enjoy looking closely at hedges on corners, or if you enjoy 'styling ' hair?

Ride GSXR 750 WR ( 1994) .

I have owned a few r1s and currently on my 2nd gixxer thou. A k6 model.

IMHO the R1 is the most beautiful and goes like stink and makes me smile. The gixxer scares the feck out of me and makes me grin like a batman baddy.

Both better bikes than me.

Had a 954 blade last year too. Goes like feck when pushed but very civilised when ridden sensibly.

A few of my old track day mates have given up road riding but absolutely swear by zx10s.

Get the best deal you can on a jap bike and ring its fekkin neck. But only as fast as your guardian angel can fly :D

Have a K5 thou. Bought new from Bridge. Can't fault it really. 11 years and covered 24k, still more power than I can handle. Might eventually get the hang of it
Anyway, you can pick a k5 or 6 up for peanuts these days. 3-4K . Last of the bikes without a cat or abs or traction control.
160kg and 160bhp.
You can tour around on them or trick em up for racing. Whatever your taste is.
At the end of the day, ride a few models and see what you prefer.
Just saying I wouldn't be withdout mine. Had and Having some great rides on mine, road and track.
Cheers

Go to the Bike shops in the area and do some test rides.

Stay off the straights, everybody knows they will go fast and make you go whoop whoop. Ride some twisties and go through traffic as this is where you will be having fun and having to negotiate respectively.

Get something with Mandlebars if you want to feel alive when you're riding your bike. Plastic fantastic litre bikes are OK for a while but the novelty wears off and on the road they are a bit pointless as you can barely use any of the performance without serious risk of jail or morgue time. I can be cynical about it as I had a couple of ZX-10Rs for over ten years and it's rather worrying when I look back at some of the tomfoolery that sports bikes, especially those with absurd amounts of power had encouraged me to indulge in over the last 30 years.
Now I'm having a great time on bikes with Mandlebars (ask Billi/Simon if you require any clarification) and road riding has never been so much fun without the ever-present possibility of spending time in a cell or a hospital ward. Likewise on track, I'm finding plenty of enjoyment with a bike that needs some input and effort to get the best out of it and it's more rewarding than an identikit sports bike that does it all for you.
At the end of the day you pays yer money and you takes yer choice, but be sure you're buying something that's considerably more powerful than you've ridden before for the right reasons. Nobody wants to see lots of RIP posts on a forum, but I will permit myself a chuckle if there's a link to follow a local news story about "Devon/Cornwall biker jailed for 150mph lunacy"
