You wont Bluebird coz its already in development. Tracker and another company are both making a device that has no wires and a self contained battery that lasts for years. It can be fitted anywhere, inside the seat, petrol tank even welded to part of the frame. Should be smaller than a matchbox. If I hear more, i'll let you all know

i've come up with the perfect way of preventing my bike getting stolen i ride a M reg Triumph Daytona 900 thats done 33K - No f*cker wants to nick it

Also i recommend parking next to Ducatis and MV's, as thieves always prefer stealing from rich b*stards

Not sure I agree with this mate, although the more exotic bike parts may fetch more money, the market for the more common bike is greater, therefore easier to sell....jason wrote:Maybe if you have a top of the range Duc or a rare bike like an MV or something then thieves will go through hell or high water to get your bike.
But to knick a CBR/blade/gixxer/r1/ Nc30 etc they dont need to and they wont bother - as there are a million and one people with those bikes that dont take heed of security.
Lock your bike - think about security and where you park it - cat 1 alarm and immobilise it, shackle lock it etc... and it wont be your bike getting knicked it'll be the CBR/blade/gixxer/r1/ Nc30 two streets over just left on the steering lock.

R1's and CBR600's are the most nicked bikes in this country, as parts are easy to sell on to others who also own these bikes...
I think that comes down to is, if there is no demand, their will be no need to supply...
However always peeps out there who will buy stolen goods without asking any questions, and thats the problem!
At the end of the day, you got two groups of bike theives to worry about...
1. Professionals
2. Joyriders
The Latter will prolly smash the shat out of your bike as they have no idea how to hotwire most bikes etc and will make the most damage, just to get the thing started for a quick fook around...
A good chain, and some sort of alarm, should keep them at bay
No1 though is more of a problem, and you have to assess how much risk your bike is in as to what to do about this. Pleanty of tracking devices out there, I was reading in MCN one person phoned the police, and took them over 3 hrs to get there (this was london I think though!) so the tracking company he used, had to hire ex-sas peeps to go fetch!!!
Where I live on the otherhand police are useually pretty good they work hard around here to nip it in the bud.
As far as professionals go, if they don't know it's there, they can't nick it, is the best policy to follow...
So if you leave it somewhere where it can be seen on a regular basis, wheather it's outside your house, or where you work etc, they can plan how to nick it, even if it's in a busy public area, you be suprised how stupid the public is at noticing things!
Keep it in a garage at home, soon as you get home get it in one, don't leave it outside, even for a few mins, and when out and about, try to park in secure carparks or chain up good out of sight!
I'm still looking to get tracking for my bigger bike just for extra peace of mind, as I've had a bike nicked before, and its the worst feeling ever, first you think its someone playing a joke, then when it kicks in what has happened, its just a weird feeling I can't even begin to explain it, its like you've been violated or something, a bike is much more personal than say a car or any other posession (except the mrs LOL) so you need to look after it

Re: idea!
Someone has. It's called RFID but it only has a range of a few metres.BluBird wrote:I think someone should invent some kind of chip...
For the type of tracking required here, you need another existing technology. It's called GSM. Your mobile phone uses it. Sadly it needs to be a little larger than a chip.

My Bandit has been alpha dotted. You get a nice set of holographic stickers to put on your bike to say that it has been dotted. If you want the web address to check out the facts and figures go to http://www.alphadot.it. Mine was done by Suzuki but you can buy the kits from some of the bike kit websites. Hope this helps
