Out of interest, how do you go about joining the IAM or getting a taster ride, I would quite like to do get some advanced training.

I have my IAM certificate on the wall behind me. I have raced with North Glos and instructed on trackdays. I go fairly well on the track even at 6.4" and 17.5 stone !

I had a couple of observed rides and then took my test and passed with no faults but a couple of very minor junction positionings.

There is no better way to ride the road than the reveal or vanishing point especially on roads you don't know.
The overtake methods of car travelling in the oppsoite direction and distance allows you to destroy a group of quick road riders in traffic.

How ever this has no relevance to the track at all. We have been doing trackdays for a few years, the quick road riders always take a few days to get upto speed beacuse the way you ride is so different.

My certificate says passed 11/2005 and I haven't been back since. Not my sort of people and the 998 with Termis on didn't much please them either !

I did my test on my Blackbird in the end as the duke wouldn't turn in the road tight enough !

So to sum it up. IAM = very good techniques that should be used by all but taught by boring people !

Just out of interest do you have to do slow speed U-Turns in tight narrow streets for the advanced test ?, was tempted to take it but then thought the bike I have got (Firestorm) has a very large turning circle that won't be able to turn in certain narrow streets that is if they stop and ask for U-Turns to be done. What does the training involve, just 40 mile trip driving around towns - motorways etc. Does it also cover the between cone in and outs ?
