half the time its not the way you ride its the other people around you. i was on the back of my mates r6 literally just up the road from his house doing under 30 mph and a car pulled out on us, the police measured that we slid 100ft up the road, if i wasnt wearing my gear i would be in one hell of a state now.

Jesus, ive just come out of hospital, nearly lost my life and nothing to do with a bike, now i wanna enjoy life, have some freedom and not think "im gonna die on my bike on every trip i make" i want to enjoy it in my own way and if that means a mile ride without a bleeding race suit on then so be it

I think you're missing the point pal, walking down the stairs is pretty self controlled...if you wore body armour to climb the stairs, it would really just show you are a moron. On the otherhand, if you were to wear leathers on a bike (no-matter how short the journey) it would show you have a bit of common sence. You seem to mention several times about short journeys, like down to jaspers....I wear full leathers to go up to the local shop. Lucky my neighbour does too as thats wear she got knocked off and spent 6 months having operations on her foot and leg. But lets look at it this way...isn't she a tw@t for wearing her leathers for such a short journey some people

Gingey i think your getting a bit over the top mate, after all it's up to them what to wear.. i generally only wear leathers if i'm doing a long ride.. but then when i came off i was in jacket, jeans and boots.. the jeans stood up pretty well to the slide.. But when it comes down to it.. when your times up and your going to get wiped out.. it is always best to stack the odd's in your favour.

Sorry but that just isn't true. Ask sproket and he will tell you his modern textile jacket just came apart when he crashed an if he had been wearing a leather jacket he wouldn't have even had a scratch on him.
Also my brothers crash at 90mph on the frnech dual carriageway eneded in his modern textiles gloves being ripped to shreds, also he had quite trendy triumph leathers which had lots of material stretch panels and the only place they ripped was on the material.

At the end of the day i do belive people should have full choice in what they do and wear (i don't event think helmets should be mandatory) but u won't change my mind that anyone who rides without gloves is stupid, anyone who rides in shorts and t-shirt is an idiot, and anyone who rides in flip flops or lets there kid on the back unprotected is a complete f*cking moron.

That said people that have full race suits and awesome bikes that only get ridden to and from Jaspers also p*ss me off, so maybe i'm just a grumpy opinionated tw8t that hates everone

hmmm... cant say i trust textiles at all but we can all make our own decisions.

interesting fact though - florida repealed the law that made wearing helmets manditory last year.

current figures - motorcycle deaths have risen from 20 to 250 in the past year. (heard on radio so might not be entirely accurate)

personally i quite enjoy not having my lid on sometimes but then again its personal choice again. think charging down the 38 with out a lid would give me cause for concern though...

anyway until this subject comes around again next month...

I'm sick of being told what to do and how to do it by nanny state do gooders. I'm glad that people choose not to wear leathers etc.
I choose to wear full leathers every time I go out on the bike cos I nail it and am quite good at falling off. Others take the risk and choose not to. Good for them. As for the difference between leathers and textiles........who cares. Unless you know the manufacturing methods used to produce each article then you cant say for definite.

Ok, rant over, who shall we criticise now? What about people who drive or ride whilst listening to music? They must be due some criticism the uncaring and unsafe gits! If the music is too loud they might go deaf. Sounds (no pun intended) a bit risky to me!

Just kidding & please clean up the sick off your floors now people always in textiles for work & leathers at other times. Ive fallen off in leathers & hurt myself quite badly & thought how bad it would have been without them so always wear them but think that what other people choose to wear is up to them BUT if they come off when im there & expect any sympathy they can forget it!

alot of talk about its your own choice and freedom etc, but who the ba?@ards that have to scrape your skin off the tar mac because you done yourself more harm than if your wore proper clothing. that ambulance didnt really need to got to the person who fell off not wearing protective clothing if wearing the right gear would of more likely damaged his/her pride more than anything, who also had a shout to got to another near fatal accident or any incident, come on use your nonces dont be selfish.

georgie_d if they where voluntary Id could go with that arguement but they aren't the "poor B astards" get paid for it, its the job they choose to do.

Im sure I pay more than enough taxes to pay for me "being scraped up off the road".

and by that measure anyone who exposes themselves to health risks is being selfish..do you smoke? ...you are using up valuable hospital time. are you overweight?...health problems later on will use up hospital time. Do you eat unhealthy? that heart attck you get when your 50 odd may mean that the ambulance getting to you didnt have a chance to save some one elses life etc etc....

As long as they dont endanger me/me mates then feck em.
