Drifting!

Post by Dan_RR »

A few of ya know I'm quite into my drifting (sliding about in a car basically). Made a little vlog about my last weekend, it was a competition and I basically knocked myself out but if you want to just see some onboard footage then skip forward to about 2 mins and 45 seconds and I put a few laps up.

Please like and subscribe if you feel like it, alternatively bombard me with abuse as I know these Youtube thingies aren't everyone's cup of tea =))

Cheers guys and girls

Good effort.

Fairly pretty s14a.
What's done to the sr20det engine?
Doesn't sound stock as sounds over boosted.

Thanks guys, yep I've met Martin Wonnacott a few times, he was drifting at that event actually, he got knocked out in the top 8 but took home the "Hard Charger award" he's a pro driver in the BDC so pretty much top level in the UK.

Engine is quite far from stock but hasn't had anything done internally, currently running bigger injectors, top mount turbo with screamer pipe (thats what you hear when it comes on boost) big front mount intercooler, full exhaust, bigger fuel pump etc etc. Has a generic map and hits about 1.1/1.2 bar of boost so should be running around the 280/290hp mark. Not crazy for one of these but keeps it reliable which is sometimes more important....

A mate of mine is really into it (Steve Miles), but I think he just lends support to a guy in a purple 3 series.
He was at the same event I believe.

I'll have a go at that around Marldon roundabout next time it rains......

Cheers, ye watched a few other peoples video's and always see a lot of stuff that could be edited out so try my best to keep it mildly interesting. Ye we are in the same circles, I go to a lot of the same practice days, if you mentioned me to Martin he would recognise who I am but I don't know him as a friend as such. Oh ye Corrina she is super into it too, he's very lucky she is as involved as she is tbh as it can take over pretty quick lol.

Corrina, (probably spelt that wrong)
Martin Took my mrs out in the chaser at bhp fuel fest a couple of years back trying to scare her. Playing with the supercharged ls v8 s15 round the lower flats at west point.

That 1.5jz in that chaser is a bit of kit especially with the big efr Borg Warner turbo.

I did the demo's at bhp fuel fest last year, no passengers though and managed to do a crash when the guy in front span, if you want to see said crash:

Ye Martin's car and others at the top of the game are like 25/30k sometimes 50k cars and I'm there trying to compete in my sub 10k car lol

Hi Dan

Just seen this thread. When I read your opening statement and you said you knocked yourself out I thought you meant that you had crashed and knocked yourself out. Now after watching the vid I see you mean you knocked yourself out of the competition. #:-s

I have to say from an outsider point of view watching you drive have to say "that boys got skills" :-bd

Although must be upsetting spending all that time to get to the day and then not performing it just shows how good you are at drifting. I would not have a clue where to start..... Impressive stuff.

Hey Rob,

Thanks very much, ah yes reading it back it does sound a bit like that, after my bike track days you have probably come to expect a crash or 2 =)) it is quite a skill and until you see it in person or get in a car with someone who is decent it can be difficult for some people to see the appeal lol. Ye the travelling (fuel cost) and time is the big thing that really gets me to be honest, if it was just a couple hrs up the road it would be a different ball game but unfortunately motorsport is a northern sport these days with hardly any southern tracks that get used for drifting.

Have to have a catch up some point mate.

Cheers
