There was me thinking that a washer could do the job fine, when really it needed to be welded!

Interesting for a front sprocket nut.
Should be able to dremel and cut the welds and remove.

That does seem like a lot of weld if it's just so the nut holds on to that washer..
Any chance it's not actually weld but something like chemical metal (JB weld)?

DRZ.. it'll likely be JB weld.
DRZ's need loctite on the splines to stop that nut coming loose.
Mine ate that washer a few times before I started putting Loctite 270 on the splines.
