New Tyres for Yamaha FZ6

Hi All,

Bike needs new tyres for the MOT shortly.

It currently has Michelin Pilot road 2 front and rear and I haven't got any complaints after 10k + Miles, but haven't had any other tyres to make a comparison.

Replacements are £205 + Fitting

Is it worth looking at the pilot road 4's which will be £274 + Fitting? I don't do alot of miles but I do ride in all weather.

Cheers

Both are excellent tyres. Pilot 4's are better in the wet and may last longer but why change if you're happy with what you have and it suits your riding style.

My Superduke 990 came with a PR3 rear and a PR2 front but when it came time to change I switched (thanks to recommendations on here) to Bridgestone Battlax Sport Touring T30 Evo's, which were cheaper than the PR's and I find them very confidence inspiring.

The PR's have a very tall profile (which makes them look a bit skinny I think) and make the bike feel more agile (tip in quickly and have plenty of lean angle available). That said, the Evo's have more than enough shoulder and thus possibly a larger contact patch.
I'm on my 2nd rear now and used them for a track day too, and I don't think they have ever once lost traction, not that I'm aware off anyway.

T30 evo are a cracking tyre but old now.
T31 are newer.

Also look at the m7rr/m9rr metzler also.

Mitchilens are good but always felt a bit rich for what they are. And can find the limits early.

Ron haslam used to use the t30evo at his race school on the 600+1000rr bikes.

All depends on your riding style.

Didn't realise you could still get PR2s - they're a very old design now. PR5's are excellent in the dry and wet but if you're on a budget maybe not. I have the Power 5's on the Duke and whilst I can't complain about grip, they are wearing out quicker than I'd like.

Will be changing to Conti TA3'S after the Wales trip

Cheers for the advice, will have to look at a few comparisons. When the PR2's were fitted last time they were £80 F & £90 R + fitting, bloody inflation!
