this is why you don't buy cheap bearings
These were fitted about 6 weeks ago, had a call from the owner to say that the spacer had popped into the hub.
Sounded a bit weird but then I found this......

Re: this is why you don't buy cheap bearings
There could be more to that story though,
We have had cheap bearings last years where also had good quality fag bearings fail in under a week.
I appreciate for the most part quality does matter,
But then again so does correct procedure of fitting and conditions in the way it's used not to prematurely fail causing issues.

Actually the bearings were pressed in 200 miles ago.

Weird... bad bearings do exist I suppose.. I've just never encountered any.
I did stop buying them though a while back as I found quality bearings could often be bought for not a lot more, if bought individually on ebay.

Re: this is why you don't buy cheap bearings
use simply bearings they give you a choice of quality and price is not hugely different , https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/?gcli ... gJ8F_D_BwE
they also do seals o rings etc , if you dont know the number of the bearing needed you can enter the size of bearing etc you want and it will find it for you

I did.
Found out today that he had new tyres fitted Last week by a Mobile fitter who does car tyres most of the time.
I did note that there was a lot more spindle through the nut that before.
thinking maybe he used his air gun and over tightened it somewhat.

Re: this is why you don't buy cheap bearings
So likely crushed the internal alloy spacer, and in doing so side loaded the bearings.
Yet the bearings get blamed...

Re: this is why you don't buy cheap bearings
Thing is now you probably need to check the length of that internal spacer, or just replace it.
If it's now short (due to being crushed) it will allow the bearings to become side loaded just by the normal axle nut torque, that is unless there is enough space in the bearing seats to take up this new 'slack'.

Re: this is why you don't buy cheap bearings
New spacers both sides, new bearings, new oil seals, new nut.
There are no real Torque figures for these bikes unfortunately. Although I have pinched it up, I did measure the exposed thread before and after and there's a good 10mm less thread exposed now.

How about the internal spacer?billinom8s wrote: ↑Jun 19th, '21, 21:55 New spacers both sides, new bearings, new oil seals, new nut.
That is the one that if crushed will allow all future bearings to be side loaded.
You can check it when assembling with new bearings, drive in the first bearing and seat it solidly, place the spacer on that bearing and if it then doesn't stand just proud of the other bearings' seat then the spacer is too short.
