Electrical fault need help

Post by Bilko1000 »

Hi my Gixxer K6 Thou has a short when I turn the bars with right indicator running. Only when I turn it left. Ive traced the wiring to the right indicator so the green wire power side runs from the indicator to the main harness behind the right fairing then to the fuse box.

The harness moves when the bars turn left Im wondering if the plastic connector has deterioriator so the wires in it are touching.

Can anyone provide tips how to test never shorts when right indicator removed.

I thought perhaps remove fuse earth multimeter then place positive probe load side of fuse and move wiring till I get continuity to test for a short?

I had something similar a few years ago. Every time I used the back brake. The indicators and the horn failed.
One of our locals ran a used car business and he had a look. He found a miniscule rubbiing of the front brake wire which was bare (about 1 mm ) and touching the handlebar. A tiny bit of tape sorted it.

P.S.

I bought a bag of 50 fuses of the net at a silly (cheap) price. Whenever it happened I just lifted the seat and banged in a new fuse.

Undeniable the indicator and see if it still does it. If it doesn't then you know the fault is in the indicator unit.

Sounds like a good plan.
Could also try to isolate those wires, like if they run to a connector then unplug that and test each wire to earth whilst moving the bars.

I trust you've given that loom a good visual inspection?
Sometimes you have cut away the whole sleeve so that you can inspect each wire separately as a couple of them could be chaffed and be shorting together in that loom.

I'm surprised Simon hasn't observed that as it's a Gixxer being stopped might avoid a bike/hedge interface

Seems to me you might need some insights from "Ruffian". Always found he is some kind of electrical wizard, pretty handy with a welding machine as well :)]

Hey guys the 10amp fuse blew again today.

Could it be the LED license plate lamp fitted they used to be 12 bulb just wondering as ive read you should fit a resistor when replacing bulbs with led just a thought?

No, it won't be that.

LED products have resistors in them to limit the current and stop them from blowing.
You only need to add resistors when replacing standard indicator bulbs with LED's, and only then if you have an old tech indicator relay.

Your problem is in the wiring I think.
