Trying to find a Shoei GT-Air 2 Gloss Black XL in a shop near Taunton

Post by Bob »

Hi All, it’s time for a new helmet. I’m trying to find a Shoei GT-Air 2 in Gloss Black size XL, but they seem to be in short supply. I’d be very grateful if anyone sees them for sale in a dealership / bike shop in Somerset/E Devon, and could let me know via this thread :-bd

Cheers, Bob

Hmmmm, well I did have a look at their website, but the exact helmet I want in XL is marked “Pre-order - Date TBC 2022”, so I’m not hopeful. Seems like a good price though…I have a long trip on Thursday, so perhaps I could detour on the way back via their place.

I also contacted Bridge M/Cs, but they only keep the matt black in stock, or I could wait until “late September” if they were to order one in for me.

What is it with matt black? Gloss finishes are so much easier to keep clean.

I’m not against buying online, but it could be a long drawn out process of trying and sending back if the new version is much different when compared to the original GT-Air that I have now. Being a baldy, the fit and comfort of the helmet is paramount to me, and so I’d much prefer to try one on in a real, old-fashioned shop if at all possible. In the end, if I can’t find one in a reasonably local shop, I will go down the online ordering route.

Sports bike shop will allow you to order it into their Bristol branch to try it on along with any other helmet you may want. Best of both worlds.

Phone Jay at Helmet City Cheddar. The shops often have different stock levels to those shown on the central website. If you want a specific item they can usually get it in quickly too :-bd

Ordered one from Bristol they sent me a different design in my size to check the fit because the one I wanted wasn't available until the end of August, when it's in just take to the shop and swop it, very helpful staff 👍👍

I have had some success with this web site. It’s European based but ship to the UK might want to take a look.

Thanks all for the suggestions. In the end I did what Moose suggested and have just got back now from Helmet City at Cheddar. Helmet sized and fitted, and a black gloss one ordered for pick up in a few days.

Unfortunately I forgot it’s a Bank Holiday weekend, so my attempt to ride along Cheddar Gorge was shelved due to the incessant milling of tourists on foot and in cars etc. I will save that for another time.

Thought there was a restraining order against you asking for photos of mens helmets.
