standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
So which way do people lean on this subject?
Only asking as the mirrors on the duke are getting tatty and if they are to be replaced not sure which way to go.
I've never had or used bar end mirrors so not sure what their field of vision is compared to standard ones.
What's your experience of these?
Ta

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
Tried them on the 790 and couldn't get on with them. Seemed like they stuck out way more than stock ones and had a smaller field of vision.
I guess if you're going for that stripped down look they make sense but for practical use I'd stay with stock ones

I have some you can try. Bought them for the Brutale but I’m going to keep it standard.

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
I bought a cheap set of bar end mirrors for my SD to see how I would get on with them.
They look great but really stick and so bash things... and their field of view is pitiful.
I think it is the effect of them being smaller in size and also further away from your head.
I was constantly adjusting them and in the end just went back to originals.
My SD has what I later learned to be Duke 125 mirrors on, and I think they look better than the stock SD990 mirrors.

Yeah, I don't think ktm are fully congratulated for their commitment to recycling products within their range.

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
Had the genuine KTM bar ends on my SD they were pretty good not cheap but you get what you pay.
Looking for some for the MV but it's a strange setup in the bars as the bar ends thread into the bars not by using the expanding system like most, saw a 800 brutale on Saturday with mirrors and lever protection all in one will have to do some investigating..££££

I think Yamaha have a similar system, the MT07 did so maybe bar end mirrors for those would be compatible?bkingalan wrote: ↑Jun 5th, '23, 08:44 Looking for some for the MV but it's a strange setup in the bars as the bar ends thread into the bars not by using the expanding system like most, saw a 800 brutale on Saturday with mirrors and lever protection all in one will have to do some investigating..££££

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
After my experience of riding a Triumph Bonneville with them in NSW Australia in 2005 for a month here's my view. There's only one thing worse than bar end mirrors, and that's no mirrors at all. Simple as that.

Standard every day, Wendy's 765 RS has bar ends and they are forever getting in the way. How wide does a bike need to be. Also agree with comments of style over function.

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
I've been trying bar ends on the ZH2. They look a bit better than stock and I can cope with the rear view. Whilst the field of view is smaller a lot less of me obscures the view. I may well put the stock mirrors back on...

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
They come as standard on my xsr. I must admit that view wise I found them excellent. Seem to be able to see much better than the standard ones on my z9. But they make the bike very wide and was not happy filtering with them fitted.
Have resorted to standard type handlebar mounted and whilst not as good view wise I feel more happy with them.
They are Allen bolt fitting ones as jug mentioned not the expanding rubber plug type.

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
Barend mirrors but had the diamond shaped ones and rotated them over my hands (rather than sticking out)
Worked well and no wider than the bars, better view past my elbows than the normal sticky up ones.

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
Forgot to mention that I also have mirror extenders on my SD, like these.

They make all the difference.. It came with them on and initially I removed them but after 1 ride I put them back on as I couldn't see much behind me without them.

Re: standard mirrors Vs bar end mirrors
I've got Oberon bar end mirrors on the TL. Better than nothing and give a vibration free image. Most aftermarket bar end mirros look a bit pants, but the Oberons arent too bad - they come in two sizes as well.
