Richard (jug) and I popped in to the Ramblers Rest on the A39 between Lynmouth and Porlock yesterday.
Seems they no longer do a discount for SWB and £3.00 for a tiny cup of weak and tepid filter coffee was not on. we were not impressed

Yes, I think the place is looking to take advantage of one time only passing tourists and not looking to grow returning customers.

Well that’s really disappointing I will reach out to my contact and see if we can change that and get our discount back again.
Thanks for the heads up

Re: Ramblers Rest - avoid it now
Ok so reached out to the team that I have spoken to before.
It seems very clear that as a business they are struggling to just operate and pay wages / taxes etc so got confirmed THERE IS NO LONGER A DISCOUNT offered for anybody SWB or other wise. Think they have also increased there prices in the hope they might be able to cover there costs so what started out as a great place to stop for some cheap food and drink with great views seems like it might have gone over priced and small on the portions.
Real shame but got to say based on the comments that were made to me in the email get the feeling the business might not be there much longer.

I cannot see why places think increasing prices will improve things , pile it high and sell it cheap is the way to go , bums on seats is what counts , get em in and keep em happy , from the report above £3 for a tepid cup of weak coffe will drive people away ,

Unfortunately I think part of there problem is the remote situation. Great if you know where they are and are passing the door but they are not really on what you would call a main trunk road. Lets hope that the increase in holiday traffic heading towards Lynmouth helps to boast trade and allows them to relower prices and consider if they really do want to remain open all through winter.
