Just doing some homework before viewing a Gen 1 Busa - anyone with experience of buying/running one have any points to pay attention to beyond the usual?
It is supposed to have a reasonably low mileage backed up by MoT history - not seen the paperwork yet but the MoT history page on the .gov website only shows the current MoT, nothing before 2024, anyone know of any legitimate reason why that might be?

Thanks Simon, as is the way I've now seen a very shiny Gen2. I'm sure the final decision will be determined by she who must be obeyed in discussion with the bank manager!

Hi Farad. I’ve had mine about 15yrs. Front calipers bind up and seize easily. I ended up switching the tokico ones to nissin ones off a triumph. Some gen 1 bikes have a hot start issue that drives you mad at the petrol station after a fill up. Worth doing a test ride and getting it hot, stopping for 5 mins and trying to restart. You can get an upgraded starter that solves it. Think it’s about £500 though. Other than that they are trusty steeds!

Thanks Dave, I had the hot start issue with my current bike after I swapped to stick coils and it went away when I swapped back. It's very annoying so I'll look out for that.
I may get back in touch if I get the bike - I already have some mods in mind and would value your insights.

If you move in those circles I have a gen one frame I'm trying to get rid of. Would be a shame to scrap it.

The deed is done, I went for a Gen 2 in the end.
I'm hoping I might be able to keep up now when the ride outs start again in spring!
Thanks for your help and advice, it's always helpful to have some inside knowledge/reassurance when you've not owned a bike of that model before.

Where did you get the strange idea that there are no rideouts before Spring??? We're even going out to play Christmas day

On the straights, not a problem, corners are where the fun is at though..

Thanks Steve, 7k miles believed genuine. However, I did a Bude run this week in the wet 'cos I had to try her out and she aint so shiny now. That's my weekend job sorted.

Now Phil and Brian, you've seen me ride ... can you imagine me on a new Busa in the icy wet winter trying to keep up with you two! I'll look out for rides on a Michael Fish proof day but it'll probably be spring unless Santa brings some thermals. I know, wuss!

Simon, my back/wrists wouldn't thank me for buying a sports bike. I'll fit high bars and if, as I suspect, my skill/bottle and the bike's capabilities slow me in the corners I'll just have to try harder on the straight bits!
