OK, some time ago I posted on here about changing my job. Well now it looks like I'm going to be made redundant in the next few months. Great timing eh? So, I thought I might use my knowledge, tools and interests and try this myself. I would be very interested to know your thoughts. The site is not finished, and ignore the prices as they may change...for the better.

It's worth a shot mate as they say nothing ventured nothing gained.
I'm sure it will be a hard slog to start with but it could pay off in the long term :!:

So in my view GO FOR IT :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: 8)

I've had my own business for nearly 5 years now, and although the holiday allowance and sick-pay scheme are appalling  it's still the best way to work. As long as it's something you know you can do well and you'll enjoy doing it ... well, as Age says ..... go for it

Don't forget Rob ..... if you need a book-keeper ......... 8)

Well, speaking as someone who never worked for anyone else, I am a bit biased. Do it, you live once.
Try reading literature such as The Winners Edge (Amazon), it'll give you a leg up. Luck won't have much to do with your success, you have to plan it, and have alot of very strong single minded faith in your objectives.

I was self-employed for 7 years, it was hard graft, and as Jak pointed out the hols and sick pay are zilch. But it was fun and it only took me about 12 years after it bombed to pay off the debts. But I'm glad I did it - beats working for some overpaid git who sacks you when it suits him!!

But hey go for it mate 8) 8) 8) 8)

I've been my own boss for years, gave myself an ulcer after 3 yrs, taking on too much work.

Got a 9 - 5 job for a 1.5 yrs and hated it, so went back to doing my own thing earlier this year.

I'm loving it again, i'm just careful not to take too much on. Although there's not much going on at the moment, it's enough to pay the bills.

Good luck to you! :)

Good luck with your new venture Robg, you can always come down and drown your sorrows with a friendly drink on Thursday night at the Marsh Mills with the rest of us...

I've had a look at your site and first impressions look good... I like the layout and ease of navigation 8)

Discount YES, 50% NO!
Seriously though, thanks for your replies. I might have to take a different job and run this evenings and weekends, gradually building it. Who knows? One thing, I know my way around bike electrics and have fitted every bike alarm in Westcom (As well as car alarms for many years).

Well mate, I guarantee to beat any price that you might get locally, and do a proper job. I treat other peoples pride & joy just like my own. Just ask Chris at Hein Gerick, Plymouth (Honda Fireblade) :P

You have competition in Plymouth - South west Audio and Security do mobile bike alarm fitting and I think have a fairly big customer base.

Good luck with the venture though. Why not do car alarms to?
