Broken Downpipes - How To Fix

Post by ZXR400Lee »

Hey all

I've broken my ZXR downpipes.. going down this nice gentle country road, and the road drops down, hit it a bit fast, had both wheels off the floor, landed pretty hard.. rode along normally and bike starting making a very funny noise, really loud, and the bike cut out when I came to junction... fired it up an, oh no, 3 cylinders :?

Stopped to have a proper look and one of the pipes coming down from the engine has completely snapped off the collector box.. I need a quick fix, to last 3 weeks... can anyone recommend anything I can repair it with? There are no missing pieces, just a case of joining things back together.

Cheers

Gun gum tape and paste are not goign to do it tbh mate, will fall apart soon after. Going to need welding, or new downpipes ideally!!

Chewing gum will cost you 30p a packet...Go into mcdonalds and nick a straw to connect the pipes

Seriously...Welding is your answer, try any local small garage that does car-work etc and offer cash.

One thing to check though...

Is it just the pipe come loose from the collector...

OR

Has it also damaged the cylinder head...worth checking...as this is what happened with my gsxr400 and had to do a top end swap over...was a pain in the ass! (Jap Monkey metal 4 u!)

Andrew has an arc welder... I know... it was his Christmas present... but I only bought it to laugh at the damage he caused!

Seriously though, go to a local garage and offer cash to a mechanic in his lunch break. I've so much welding done for a tenner in the past that way.

Good luck m8.
