CBR900 vs. ZX9R vs. YZF1000

Post by ZXR400Lee »

Hey all

Going to be moving up to a bigger bike hopefully before christmas or early January depending on my job situation.. (just applied a couple of weeks ago to be a police officier!)

The three affordable big bikes I've looked at are CBR900 Fireblade, ZX9R (C or E model) or a YZF1000 ThunderAce.

Anyone ever riden or owned one.. any opinions on the better bike? Common problems etc..

Cheers

Got to agree there the Blade is the one I'd go for, what year are you looking at?

Second choice would be the ZX9, big fat sports/tourer, very good at everything but undesirable, good when buying bad when selling.

And the YZF1000 I would personally just avoid altogether, no particular reason though.........

I'm looking at the last year of Blade before the 929cc. Insurance isnt an issue as you might think with me only being 18, I already have that sorted out 8) . Just got to find the correct bike.

The Thunderace would be the most sport tourer out of them, So depends on what you are after I guess.

The ZX9R is very underated, It wasnt that heavy (2001 model is 185kg) with '145BHP' but thats probably more like 120ish at the wheels, So not far behind a Blade. with most Kwaks, it was never cutting edge just a good alround bike.

919 Blade, thats a 1998 aint it? They're apparently 130BHP and 180kg dry.

When does your restriction run out?

Blade first. Mine lasted 4 years and I was still laughing when we parted.

Chunder ace is a superb bike and lost a lot of value from new so quite cheap. Doesn't turn as fast as a blade and bottoms out the fairing when pushed hard but 99% of the time it is a competent bike.

ZX9 is ok but doesn't flick my switch!

My restriction still has about 6 months left on it, but I have found a way to get my insurance affordable. 33bhp kits are made for pretty much any bike and I just want the certificate so that isnt a problem at all.

I love the look of the Blade, would like it to be 1998/1999 model though preferably. I just want some thing with awesome handling and hasnt any trouble driving me to a different country and home again.

Thanks for all your thoughts, looks like blade is the way forwards... never owned a Honda before. :D

I have had two Thunderaces, so I must have found them good. Excellent, ride all day without discomfort, handles brilliantly when correctly set up[, absolutely mental revs at top end, or chunder along at lows revs like twist and go. Top bike.

How different is a YZF1000 Thunderace from a YZF-R1?
