Have any of you Exeter based bods seen a Ducati 1098 in the full racing spec around?? With the new wheels and the white/red/green/gold paintjob?
I was riding through Exeter on my way back to Fal about 3 weeks ago and was stopped at the Countess Weir roundabout (think thats the name) and I looked over to the Shell garage on my right and saw a guy pulling his helmet on and starting it up.
I would of done anything to whizz around the roundabout and stop him for a chat

the tricolor is far better than the standard,im a ducati nut and accidently walked past the 1098 the first time i went into riders, they had it parked up against the 999r with all its carbon and gold ohlins, twas only when i had a second look i realised the 1098 was next to it. still its a stunning bike and i will be having 848 when its realesed next year

until you've ridden a ducati 4 a while you'll never understand it. the jap bikes have no soul. all IL4's are practically the same minus the different bodywork, theres no other engine like the ducati v twin and theres no bike out there that looks as nice as a 996/1098 apart from maybe the mv1000fr.
take 1 out for a long long ride and you'll love it mate
world supers is a bit of a italian farce but the ducatis do need a large cc limit, my standard cbr6 is so much quicker around silverstone than my old 748 was and i spent mega cash on that bike. they dont have the outright speed of a il4 but they do put a smile on your face and thats why im getting another 1

Like I said, build a four. When the fours were only 750 Honda built a twin so they could be competative. Can't Ducati do the same otherwise what was the point in letting the fours go to 1000
Yes I have ridden a Ducati, the sports tourer thing (long time ago) and didn't think much of it
Oh and they seem ver britle
Sorry just can't see what all the fuss is about is all.

why should they build a il4, nobody complained last year when honda bulit a v5 motogp bike or when ilmor bulit a triple and had a lower weight limit. wsbk is about making a bike you can buy on the road and making racing affordable which it no longer isnt. just look at how leon and greg struggled last weekend, the only reason its doing so well in wsbk is because of bayliss and the fact theyre all running shit pirelli tyres
you cant compare a 1098 to a st2 you stupid boy, thats like comparing a zx10 with a er6 or what ever else kawasaki make
my ducati was more reliable than my r6 was, its how you look after a bike my friend

So why are Ducati so expensive then and why is there only gonna be about 500 1200s made?

You just said Ducati, you didn't say which

You stupid boy

i didnt need to as you were talking ducati race bikes so that could only be 999/749 or the 1098 superstock and the threads on a 1098, i win hahaha
its not the bike thats expensive its the cost of all electrics/traction control needed to keep with the 4's and they now run the same systems as its the must have item for this year just like slipper clutches were 5 year ago
on the road bike front people will pay more for a quality bike, look at the nr750(£38k)nc30/nc35 for example or the old ow01, proper race bikes for the road, see how many r1sp's that yamaha sold last year just so people could have the best and dont foregt mv augusta who now have the f4cc at a cool £72k and on show at paignton bike weekend i do believe

It always makes me smile when people trot out the old "japanese bikes have no soul" argument to justify an Italian bike. "Soul" when used for european bikes in most cases is another way of saying "It's a cantakerous old pile of crap that's best left parked at the back of the garage, because if it's taken out it's unlikely to drive itself back in there"
There are plenty of Jap bikes with "soul" or "character" - LC250/350, My old GPz11B1 had "character"

, an RC30, RVF750, either of the TL's, any 2 stroke triple (Kwack or Suzi), RG500's, Honda CBX, Kwack Z13 .....
Mike, as a mechanic you should know what justifies the difference in capacity is the given bmep of an engine - the more cylinders for a given capacity the higher it will rev and thus the more power it will make. Yes, Ducati could build a four (actually they did - it's called MV

) but their whole marketing raison d'etre are twins. It's what sets them apart. Superbikes are a race version of a road bike, NOT a road version of a race bike, therefore it's logical that Ducati use a twin. If they can get an advantage in capacity or weight, so what? Honda tried it on with their siamese V8 (sorry oval piston V4) didn't they
I like to see as many engine configurations out there as possible, it all adds to the sound and spectacle. Who cares if the rules need a little "jink" to keep thjings competitive, in the end we're (the buying public) the winners

i see all those jap bikes that have are soul are not from the modern 4 stroke il4 era and its good 4 a positive arguement to come from a non ducati man too
when i get the 996 and get it road registered i'll let you have a go and then you can tell me what you prefer mike
