Following on from our new purchase (RF600), does anyone know why the rear brake light might not work whilst operating the rear brake pedal ? Front brake lever lights it up fine, is there a swich somewhere or any other reason it might not work ?
Thanks
Steve

Yes, there is a separate switch for the rear pedal.
look around the pedal area and you should find a spring leading off the pedal somewhere to a switch unit

very common for the rear switch to be full of crud & rust = not working
WD40 is your friend

yeh probably just crud infested through age but it could also be that its not even there anymore.
has it got standard footpegs?
The switch might just have been removed, I always chuck my rear light switch assembly in the bin when I change rearsets. (or maybe its just me that does that)

you could change the switch to a banjo switch then no chance of crud stopping it working
Ive changed my rear and front to banjo switches

It's a banjo bolt with a pressure activated switch in it. It replaces the standard brake banjo bolt at the master cylinder. If you fit this - you can remove the standard brake switch - worth it on the rear to avoid the rust / crud problem, almost essential if you fit rear sets.

take the rearset off and give the switch a clean using a toothbrush,
as above, get the wd40 on it and manipulate it by hand until the light begins to work, if that doesnt fix it make sure u dont have a break in the wire.

The normal switches are adjustable so you might just need to wind it up a little. Mine kept needing adjusting but was a pain to get to so I put a banjo switch on, more reliable

right, found the switch and looks like the previuos owner fitted a square ended switch into a round holder

It works (just) but still require a new one as there's no adjustment as thats missing too.
