Mostly harmless!

hello all! my names john, im 22, im a dockmaster for brixham harbour and i'm new! I've just recently decided to bite the bullet and go for my full bike licence after taking my poor little 125 marauder far further than it was ever meant to go, having said that it has served me well and in the right hands a lovely machine which now lives on to serve fresh blood to the bikers realm.
days afer announcing my quest for the licence i was offered a sorry looking XJ900 and, like many of you i hope, instantly developed an unhealthy sense of mercy for this (soon not to be) bright purple wreck. i bought it, stripped it and i'm now in the process of a complete nut and bolt rebuild.
I do intend to make some changes, i apologize in advance to any fundamentalist fans of the XJ but, since its a project likely to consume most of my pocket money for quite some time, i feel it best to make a machine which it exactly what i'm looking for. i hope that if you follow my progress you will see that i'm simply trying to make an awesome machine.
i'm really new to this so any advice would certainly be most appreciated, i hope to meet some interesting, like-minded people, cheers!
