one things for sure he is helping BMW shift those GS things. I was driving around london a couple of weeks ago and I must have seen half a dozen of them all only a year or two old in the space of two days. I think they are the second biggest selling bike in the UK now arent they? Just goes to show how easy to influence we are.
whoever made the decision at KTM not to supply those two with bikes when they where originally trying to get KTM support in the long way around must be either kicking themselves or standing in a job queue

(if you remember BMW was the fall back option when KTM turned them down)

Its a fair point but I think if they were going to do those trips on KTMS, it would be
"The Long Way Down (to France)"

Wont have a word said against Ewan..... due to the other half having a strange type of fondness for the chap. She was watching the long way down when she mentioned that it might be nice to go round europe on a bike. I pointed out that this would require me actualy getting another bike.....which she had been totaly against for a few years. She then said that maybe it wouldnt be a bad idea.....
Before she could change her mind or realise she would be riding pillion with me and not ewan i returned home with my ZZR1200
So a big thanks to Ewan from me
Mind you, i have got to agree that it is one dodgy advert

KTM have a far better pedigree at the Paris Dakar than BMW and you could easily argue way better and more suitable and reliable bikes than BMW could ever provide.
BMW was definately the bum deal.

Sorry, whats the issue - the bloke's business is making money, which is exactly what this is .......
The likes of Ewan and Charlie (like 'em or loath 'em) have brought bikes further into the mainstream of social acceptability, and that has to be a good thing.
In doing their two series they have created a very defined image, which someone is now paying him a fortune to exploit. If you were in his position would you not do it

Sorry Moose - didn't set out to offend.
I agree that LWR and LWD have very much given a much needed positive boost to motorbiking generally, and yes I think given the chance of course most people would be making the very most out of the opportunity £££££ - who wouldn't?
The first series I thoroughly enjoyed, was pretty inspiring and I'm certain has had more than a little bit to do with many a GS purchase since!

But LWD didn't have the same appeal (for me anyway) and from a girlies POV, the smellies ad is quite cheesy.
I admire ANYONE who sets out on such a challenge, supported sponsored or otherwise - I wish they had portrayed a more 'cultural' picture what of riding thru an amazing continent like Africa is actually like.
Now. Where's the emoticon thingy for virtual hug + pint then??
