This is probably a bit of an oldy;

I'm at work & bored, was searching for stuff to polish my helmet with ( ahem ), my MOTORCYCLE helmet OK!! & found lots of american forum topics on using pledge, not just for your lid, but for the bike n'all with fors and against ranging from wax build-up/plastic damage/attracts bee's(WTF?) to "it helps the bugs wipe off".

Has anyone here used pledge in this way, & whats your opinion?

Ive used pledge on my visor to help water and bugs slide off of it. And i know a few people who say bike dealers use it but dont know whether thats a true story. In aerosol form if you don't spray it directly onto the bike it's only wax which is going to protect your bike. I wouldn't spray it directly onto the plastics though as the propellant might damage them although i doubt it.

i have heard about it being used on fairings to get dead bugs off.
i guess it would work just as good on visors.
i normally just use good old fashioned window cleaner on the helmet and visor.......seems to work okay and doesn't fade the paint or graphics.

the man to ask is mike daytona as he cleans bikes for a living.

IVE SEEN PLEDGE ON THE SIDE OF A FEW MAJOR TEAMS LIKE REPSOL HONDAS..
OK FOR THEM THOUGH IF IT FADES THE PAINT JOB JUST PUT A NEW ONE ON...
I HAVE USED IT TO CLEAN A BLACK BIKE A FEW TIMES AND DIDNT \ HASNT FADED....
WON' T DO MY NICE BIKE WITH IT THOUGH.. BLACK PLASTIC PARTS MAYBE..
AND ROAD RACING SOME BLOKE WILL RUN ON AND QUICKLY CLEAN VISORS AND SCREENS WITH PLEDGE WHILE RE FUELING..

i tried it on my lid today (not the visor though)& bugs do seem to wipe off better after applying it, however i'm gonna stick with what i've always done;

warm water/kitchen towels on the lid. Polished off with a duster.
RainX on the outside of my clear visor with a pinlock anti-fog insert -->it's the dogs b******s for nightriding.
only warm water/kitchen towels on my IridiumVisor, i never use rainX on my IridiumVisor because the alcohol apparently wipes off the tinted coating.
Helmet Desanitisor for the lining. not a great aroma, but better than sweat!

Oh i geddit, your "testing" the water eh? feeling lonely now funky has moved to pastures new. Please allow me to show you the world of polishing your OWN helmet...

I use stuff called 'Mutipurpose polish' on bikes that we get from a valet supplier, which is basicaly furniture polish. As with all chemicals if you have any doubts test on a small area that is out of direct site.

When washing the bike, bfore you damp it down with water spray the front area with polish, headlight, screen, mirrors, indicators, mudguard, froks, fairing tank. Basicaly anywhere that flies might have attached themselves to. Leave it to soak and then when you wash the bike of e walla.

It seems to work becasue all the flies need it soaking but water runs straight of whereas polish doesn't

Don't leave flies on the bike for too long. I've seeen it all to often when they have eatten into the paintwork and even screens and headlights (well not literally cos they're dead).

Oh and don't use anything rougher than a sponge or cloth. I know this seems obvious but you'd be supprised

I use Mr Sheen on my bike, its cheap enough to use often. I've not had any problems and cant see why you would...

It does keep the crap off, a few weeks ago I rode in the pissssing rain, I got soaked right through, next day I expected to have a filthy bike but barely any dirt etc stuck to it. Literally wiped it down with a old rag and it looked as clean as new again.

I normally just spit on mine then give it a good rubbing.







And i usually do the same for my bike helmet.

I use Mr sheen to seems to do exactly the same job as expensive specialist stuff.
