Hi there haven't got a bike yet but thinking about doing my tests and becoming a biker gal. Anyone got any helpful tips?

Though not a girl (apart from the odd weekend, shhh): My only tip is stop thinking about and do it! It's the best thing I ever done.

If you get it done before the end of September/Start of October time, it should be cheaper and do-able closer to home (unless you live near one of the new "SuperCentres").

Most of all, go out there, and enjoy yourself. Oh, and Welcome to SWB.

Hello & welcome to the forum. Where abouts are you from & do you have any style of bike in mind?

I'd suggest getting started as soon as you can, once the ball (wheels?) is rolling you'll love it & not look back.

Buy yourself some comfortable kit from a shop NOT the internet, so you know it fits... theres nothing worse than using the kit the tutors have as backup and being constantly distracted by a loose boot or jacket while your learning.

Go to a bike shop & ask to have a sit on some of their new-rider friendly bikes maybe a Suzuki Bandit or Kawazaki ER6? ... it might sound like bull but it gives you a chance to get a feel for seat-height & riding position & they could give you some pointers too.

There are some top Ladies & Gents on here with a wealth of info for you.... no pressure then guys

hi and welcome. Biking is the best. Pure and simple. The biking community is a very relaxed one despite what you may occasionally read on here. Best way to get into the bike scene is to start hanging around with bike people, go to your local dealers, ask what they have suitable for your age/build etc and see if you like the styles available. Ask questions, lots of them so you can get as much info to help you with your choices, like has been said above, get some comfy gear and then start dropping hints that you would like to go pillion to see what its like. You may hate the feeling of being on a bike but then again it may be the kick in the arse that gets you onboard. If you are over 21 go for the full test.

Aw, What a lovely lot you are! Thats some really good advice given - when I wanted to do my license, I didn't know anyone into bikes AT ALL (now have lots of 'bike mates'). Ask loads of q's, get some proper gear (most important bit imo) and get started on the license process. I have a feeling that there may be a rush for folks doing their test, and places getting very booked up?

Oh and btw, if you get yourself a bike, I'll quite happily come out for a spuddle I remember what it was like being a newb, and really apreciated the patience of others

Hi welcome to the forum, as others have said just get out there and do it. My advice above what the other have said is find a good training school who will then help you learn everything you need and can give you advice about getting the right gear etc. Whereabouts are you from?, so we can suggest some good training centres near you.

Hi and welcome to the forums, just do it, its a different way of travelling with more freedom than you can use and if you get sorted quick you might get some rides in while summer is here. Choice of bikes is huge but imho the best way is either bike shops or a big bike gathering and wander round the bikepark as you tend to find more bikes that way than the shops stock like the smaller 400 sports bikes or just trawl the net for bike pictures until you see something that catches your eye. Also i spose your not meant to ask a lady her age but...... if your over 21 it may be worth you taking you Direct access so you can jump on a bigger than 33hp bike straight away.

Definatly if you can do the direct access. The money you save doing the restricted lisence automatically goes out the window when you get a bike and have to spend 200+ getting it restricted.
As said get some well fitting gear, and take it easy until you are comfortable with your bike's power weight ect.

Hi and welcome. As the others have said. Just go and do it. I have a car to cary kids and shopping thats it. When it comes to the choice of taking the bike or the car, the bike wins every time even in the rain. Proper gear is a must though. If you feel comfortable on the bike that is more than half the battle. Good Luck

I passed mine about 4 years ago and never looked back.. best thing I Ever did and we even go on ladies rideouts which when you are a newbie can be less intimidating.

I'd definitely get your test in before end of September as that is when the new test comes in...

You'll need to get your CBT done first then your Theory and then your practical training, when you do your CBT ask the instructor to assess your riding so he can let you know how many days training you might need.

Hi,i on;y passed back in March. Best thing i've ever done. i love it. i didn't have any "biker friends" as such untill i joined on here. you get to meet a lot of people.

if your in the torbay area, i would suggest Pro Rider in Newton Abbot. really nice guys!
