In a couple of days im taking my bike up to bristol to live (where my last one got stolen) and i really really cant afford to lose this one as well, whats some good ideas other than hiding under the cover with the bike with 12. bore.
I already have a mincy disc lock and a 'mammoth chain'

Chain a hungry Doberman to the bike.......just feed it when you want to unlock & go for a ride
On a more serious note, I presume you've got to leave the bike outside? If that's the case you've got to make it as difficult as possible for the theiving gits. Can you fix a ground anchor anywhere? Side of the house for instance? or if there's a garden you could dig a hole, fill with concrete & set a ground anchor into the concrete. If there's no garden, but you have access to a yard you could get one of those huge plant pots, fill with concrete & set a ground anchor into it. It may not be ideal, but if it's heavy enough it'll make it more difficult for it to be moved.

i really hoped i could wheel into my back garden, its down an ally with 2 locked gates so would feel alot better. But looking at it last weekend im really going to struggle to fit the bike down it. All my house mates are whinging like girls because i've told them i might keep the bike in the house hall way
I'm thinking groundanchor and maybe an alarmed chain? but i dont know how much they cost. Its not
that valuable bike but chavs will take anything.

I suggest you never park in a pub in dartford. Nothing will stop a pikey there.

wrap it in barbed wire. anchor it from all directions. put motion detecting flamethrowers on it. A fake cctv camera maybe?

I've always thought that a really sh1tty old bike cover is effective. Tie it on good with lots of baler twine. The older, crappier, and more hassle to remove the better. Who would think that a shiny beast of a machine would be hiding under that filthy old tarpaulin? If most thieves are opportunists then they're unlikely to go to the hassle of rooting around under a cruddy cover to look what's there. Hopefully they'll assume it's a similarly crappy old commuter and move on to easier, shiner prey...
Also obviously secure with the best locks you can afford! Lamposts make good ground anchors and double as a security light.
The heart does not want what the eye does not see n' all that.

if u do use a ground anchor, dont put it on the ground, i know it sounds obvious but if the chain is lying across the ground makes it easier to swing at, put the anchor in the most awkward corner at the most awkward angle to make it hassle to take an axe to the chain or the anchor ;)

for an uncroppable chain it could be worth you while looking at the Almax, they aren't cheap but they are a damn sight better than a lot of them on the market. Obviously not much good if you dont have anything to lock it to though
what area of Bristol are you going to? if its filton I may be able to help.
