Just thought I'd open up a new topic.
Was picking up a friend last night (for a nice fee of £40) at about 2 in the morning. Just outside Sidmouth, well the road out of Sidmouth in fact. Before you turn onto the main road... it is flooded...

I didn't know this as it was dark and I couldn't see until the last second, I thought hmm... Puddle on the side of the road, ill just pull out into the middle abit more. Big mistake! I found us and the bike knee deep in flood water. Amazingly the bike still pulled through! Didn't seem to have a problem with it. It was quite fun actually, something abit different and probably to be expected in the winter.

Come 4AM I was lying in bed and my legs were red raw, cold to through to the bone... Still trying to decide wether it was worth it or not haha.

Anyway, anybody else in here experienced flood water/biking events?

Now dont hold me this Blindside...i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure thats what the jetski is for

I remember last year about may i think when it suddenly bucketed it down in torquay and I was riding home at the time. I was sadly wearing my leathers and it was raining so bad I could feel water filling up my boots and when I got to laws bridges I had a bow wave in front of my bike and the lights were red so had to put my foot down in all the water! I've got to say the bike was impeccable.

I remember when I was on my 50, I didn't know at the time, but it had just nipped up and stopped running. Managed to bump it down a back lane which thinking about it is probably the worst thing I could of done.
Going down this back lane I catch some old dear in a Fiesta trying to go through a puddle about 4 inches deep all the way across the road so she slows down to about 1 mph to go through this puddle so I have to slow down behind her, cue my bike cutting out again.
So off I get and have to push my bike about 3m through a puddle past my ankles, then bump start it again.
I was not happy.

Shouldve overtaken her on your back wheel steve.

I just used to go quick enough to stop the exhaust filling up and stalling the bike, the water pool that used to gather around my nads where my waterproofs wrinkled up was worse, used to get to work and it looked like i had pissed myself

Although i do hear that at your age that is always a possibility.

What i dont like is when its peeing it down so much you get rivers running all over the road, with big rocks and stones in the middle like a real riverbed.
Thats when you want a Beta to ride to work

All roads out of lympstone are flooded today, just came in through them a half hour ago, I pulled over ahead of the puddle at the top of a hill and decided to yet again risk it. This time lifting my feet up basicly to the handlebars. And I made it through...

Challenging this weather and this rain is. I remember a qoute from "Long Way Down". It can rain all it likes on you and the road, but just don't let it rain in your head. Keep the rain out of your mind and you'll be fine

Does anybody have any kind of solution (other than doing them up as tight as possible) to stop it raining in your boots?

I wear some waterproof textile trousers to work on cold and wet days, and I just have the legs over the top of the boots. Never had a problem.

Thats only at night m8, if i forget the no drink after ten rule, but i find the incontinence pants take care of most of the leakage, but a crafty one of the wrist is now out of the question as rubber pants make too much squeaking and the missus wakes up........

Today i discovered that 5am starts+a night of heavy rain+me running late = a very tired paul not noticing a 15m longx2ft deep puddle right in front me,then hitting said puddle at 50mph creating a bow wave that hit me right in the face.

Wish I'd have seen that

Had a few rides home from work last winter where it got so wet the ends of the fingers of my gloves got so full of rain i had to empty them out when i got home, mmm can't wait for winter again! Mind you if you think rain is fun, snow is great! Last year on the one day we had heavy enough snow I rode to work in the middle of the road cos the snow was still fresh and gave me grip, whilst either side of me were cars struggling to grip in the frozen slush! Boy did I laugh !
