Is it normal to be this excited about buying a new helmet?

Went to try on some today, was aiming for the AGV Stealth as it has a 5* sharp rating, but is the most uncomfortable thing i have ever had the misfortune of wearing. I then made the mistake of trying on an Arai Chaser, it is so comfy i couldn't help myself, so i ordered one from racevisors.co.uk with a load of free stuff thrown in for £30 less than it was in the shop, went for the phil read design

its nice, however, you now have the same lid as funky, you shall from hence forth be known as a follower of funkys helmet and every time you put it on have to chant out loud ' i am now sliding on funkys helmet and it fits very nicely'.

watch out mate. according to some on this forum( past and present) helmets are a waste of time....

sounds like a good choice to me tho, hope you get on well with it.

I would love an Arai, but they Don't fit my head.

I want one of these, they're shiny, and I idolise Lorenzo, hence the crashes.

never really got on with AGV's, tried an x-vent after having an arai quantum e for years and it felt like a bucket - visibility seemed crap too. still use the arai now over it - comfiest lid i've owned.

How does it feel to have my helmet on your head? Does it ease on or just slap on your forehead?

it's a lovely helmet, so comfortable.

So in a few years time when the shop has closed down due to lack of business because people come in get the service then buy elsewhere for a 10% percent saving that the shop might have given you anyway if you were a regular customer...........Where will you go then to find out what size your head is

Measure your own head then order that size...

I know it sucks that to order things we're not getting off our arses anymore, but I think that is how technology and shopping are going hand in hand with the retailer being required to keep up. Internet shopping as I believe is saving money for all, both the shopper and the retailer at the expense of that wonderful human touch.

Having said that i bought my arai from bridge and recieved a massive discount (over 50 quid) and the lad helping me was very good and knowledgable (so not stuart then) even though apparently he normally resides upstairs in the parts department.

Then I have just bought a new helmet for the missus from M&P over ebay, the sent the wrong one initially but paid to get it back and sent me the correct one with a foggy mask again I received a big discount on this helmet over shop retailers.

im currently saving up for the shoei xr1000 relic... its very comfortable and the noise it lets in is low.

Funky, my compliments on your fine helmet, it slips on nicely and cossets my cheeks like nothing else I've tried

Oh, and I'm not going to feel bad about buying online for less, I was stood in the shop for a good 20 minutes and got no service at all, had they been better I probably would've bought there and then as they had a haga rep design that I really liked

Plus I doubt they could've matched 10% off, 2 extra visors, an arai fleece helmet bag, and a visor holder. I'm not going to feel guilty about getting a better deal for myself

its a cracking choice of lid mate,the arai is a much better buy than the agv in my eyes,having owned both i will always go for arai first.

as for the internet side of it,crap happens and thats the way life is going. ive had a customer this month whos bought more manauls off me in the last 10 days than he has done in 10 months and thats all down to listing on ebay and selling for nearly full rrp. its a sign of the times unfortunately as webster said if he'd received better service he may have bought there,the arai bag is a standard feature and i think all are coming with a freebie at the moment but doubt anyone would have been able to include the 2 free visors. some people in the trade need to wake up and embrace the technology or get left behind,its not a good thing but biking is now more of a hobby and with more and more people working longer hours/weekends people will use the internet a lot more

Is it wrong that I quite lke this now I have changed the bars etc on my bike.

I will always try to get it cheap as possible, if its anything over £10-20 cheaper online (depending on the actual price of the item) I will buy it from there, any cheaper, I'll buy locally. In this day and age, everyone is looking for the best price. Besides with a big brand like Arai you will get decent service from any Arai dealer even if you didnt originally purchase it from them.

Bad luck buying a Funky helmet, I bet it already smells cheesy and has aids.

I have been a long time arai fan and my last 3 lids have been arai...but recently got so fecked of with the crap visor change system and the side pods breaking that I went out and bought a different make lid out of principal. Arai make great lids but they have the worst visor change system going....I have had the side pods snap their fragile clip in mounts 3 times now over the last few years. £25 everytime you need a new set....shite...i refuse to ever buy another arai after one went at pembrey recently and I wasnt even changing the visor. Had to do the whole day with the visor duct taped to the lid

just bought a shoei xr1000 (one pictured below) noisier than my arais and not quite as nice a fit - also prone to mist up (solved that with a mouth/nose guard thingmy though)...but the visor change system is about ten billion times better than on an Arai.

you can get a deal on them as they are phasing the model out to....

Personally I am not "brand conscious" as such, going with what fits best over what label I wear ...... having said that, the most common helmet in my ownership has been either Bell (when they were worth wearing) or Shoei.

I have never had an Arai shaped head, and despite trying have never found one that fit comfortably. Likewise I never found AGV's fit me either, although for some reason one model (the Quasar) did and I have a fluoro yellow one of those somewhere ...... It is often the case that if Arai's fit well a Shoei won't, and vice-versa. Arai and AGV seem to suit similar head shapes too

I ought to be looking for a new one really, the Shoei XR900 I currently (well maybe not exactly ) wear is about 8yrs old now ....... and that'll involve a trip around the shops seeing what fits best and fares well in the "sharp" tests.
