A couple of ebay questions
i've got some things I want to bung on ebay for auction but have never done it before so...
How do you work out the postage? Surley you don't need to pack it up and ask the PO first.
Do you need to use paypal and if so is it easy?
Is it one of those things that when you've done it once it's a peace of p!ss?
All seems a bit daunting to me
Thanks

postage - wrap it up, take t to the post office, get them to weigh it and give u a price - easiest way
i always use paypal, quicker and safer
very easy to do, thats why it works.
there are charges tho, also make sure u say where u will send it, i have sold stuff in the past, stated that i won't send abroad yet u still got enquiries from mainland

Re: A couple of ebay questions
Thanks for that guys.
Been looking at paypal and I've got to admit I'm very dubious about it. I know lots of people use it but have they read what they do with your informatin and how this may not be secure in toher countries.
Also what is there to stop buyers from saying they haven't received goods when they have, and claiming money back.
But I bet people don't pay my any other means do they?
It's so easy to just say fook it and sign up (wich is what I expect a lot of people do) but what with all that internet fraud going on I am a bit dubious yet I want to be able to flog stuff on ebay
Am I worrying about nothing or just not be naive

Re: A couple of ebay questions
Iv'e been selling stuff on flea bay for years adn nearly always used Paypal. I've never had any problems with paypal. Had a few non paying bidders but you just claim the seller fees back and relist it. It's a pain but nothing major.
I use some digital scales here that go upto 25kg and then compare it to the RM website. If it get too heavy or big it will go by parcelfarce anywhere in mainland UK for £15. I don't and won't sell abroad. end auctions early ( they never stick to the deal and you have to pay to relist) and if I want a set price for something I either start it at that or just put a reserve on it if it's over the Ebay £50 minimum.
Hope that helps.

Re: A couple of ebay questions
as a new ebayer seller ebay insist on you having paypal to make sure the transaction runs smoothly etc etc funny how paypal is owned by ebayMike Daytona600 wrote:I supose the buyer knows you're gonna send the item cos otherwise you get bad feedback etc?niloc 1200 wrote:you can get paid by cheque and wait for it to clear before you post if you want ! dont worry ebay is easy once you sell your first item you will have the bug to sell loads
its brilliant for paying with and a bit of a nightmare for a seller especially if its high value as they sometimes hold the funds now for upto 21days or until you have received positive feedback
unfortunately theres no way around for people like us and ebay know this, its different if you have a shop with a card machine that people can ring up and pay with
also allow a little extra on your postage charges to cover your ebay and especially the paypal fees as they take a percentage of your cash received not the auction price like ebay do
hope that helps ya matey

Re: A couple of ebay questions
due to ebay's new rules you have to offer paypal and aren't allowed to not accept it if someone wishes to pay that way. Shouldn't worry about the fraud thing, paypal is owned by ebay and it's pretty safe, even if your account gets broken into (like my mates did a few months ago) they sort it out and get any money you lost back pretty sharpish.
