Westonzoyland sprint

On 7&8 May the national sprint association are having a sprint meeting at westonzoyland. If you've never seen it before its well worth a trip if you're into weird and wonderful bikes. Everything from turbo hayabusas to 1930's methanol burning Douglas's compete against the clock down a 1/4 strip on the old airfield. Don't expect any luxuries this is bike racing in its most simple and basic form. Anything goes as far as types of bike with home built specials which make your ears bleed to ordinary Joe turning up on his road bike paying a tenner(I think) and having a go. There is usually a burger van and toilet and a laid back attitude you can wander round the pits and chat to the owners. I would suggest going mid morning or early afternoon as they tend to stop for lunch and it can take a while for the action to start . Best of all though its free to watch (It was last time I went anyway) and you'll come away with an urge to buy a crash damaged zzr1100 for £500 to strip down and have a go on. Check out there website national sprint association for fixtures.
The strip at Westonzoyland is at the far end of the air field at the end of the long straight as you come out of Westonzoyland village from Bridgwater . After the long straight the road bends to the right them you take the next left and go through a gate on the left to the strip . The entrance may vary so just keep your eyes open for the small NSA pointers.I'm going on the Sunday with some mates unless something crops up may see you there. I've got a KTM 950 supermoto bald head goatee black shoei leather jacket . Yeah I know a real babe magnet!! Just ask the wife!!
The highlight last time I went was the middle aged lady in the 80 style leathers who looked like your best mates mum go down the strip on a rg500 stretched drag bike with wheelie bars like a bat out of hell. Her husband races a ducati 998 engined sprinter.

If i didn't have the kids I might have considered making the trip, as I'd love to run my Gix up the strip.

Always have had mohawks over the years (when jobs have let me), funny as hell when I had a stick on one on my bike lid, guy shouts across at a local pub meet saying "Why the hell have you got a F**king blue mohawk on your lid you t**t?" Remove helmet to reveal blue mohawk underneath........ "What did you say mate?" Look on his face was priceless.

had a bleached blond mohawk with black hair in the early ninties hence the Badger nickname and kept its multi coloured variations untill the last year or so when thinning hair forced a crew cut

Hey!! less of the hair talk. Last time I had chance to grow a mohawk was about 1988!!
Nice to see an old skool suzuki fan. Got an old slabbie 1100 to do up when time allows. Bought it when I was 25 (39 now) survived the expearience and did'nt have the heart to sell her. Just don't know what to do, should do up as standard but like the streetfighter look or was toying with building a hard tail chop

.
If I see you at the sprint will have a chin wag

Love the streetfighter look, was tempting to do that with my 7/11 but got into track days, so gonna keep her fully faired........... unless I deck it and then I will replace the top yoke for the new one I have already for the Renthals and fighter it. Hopefully see you there

Yeah think its gonna be a standard resto. The slabbie is getting collectable now so would be a shame to fighter it. Would do if didn't have all the bodywork. Plus it was my dream bike back in 86 when it was on the front cover of "bike" mag. Got an lc to do up as well again one I had and never sold in bits at the moment waitng for time an money to allow.

Might go to this.
Last time i went some guy went down on a stretched ZX10, front end came up & came down hard smashing his sump.Guy didn't realise oil was p***ing out so there was oil the full length of the track. It was late sunday afternoon so they finished early.
Entertaining event though, worth a look.

Bring yer wellies!! Will be there if not totally Pi@@@ing down . Don't mind the wet but not sure if they run in torrential rain!! Was coming with a couple mates but they don't like getting their feet wet. Their bikes are made of sugar scared they might dissolve in the rain. Bloody fair weather bikers. Spend more time cleaning than riding .
Got the day off from the missus so will be there or out on the bike somewhere what ever the weather
