no experience with HID conversions, but I would suggest you dont want too great a difference between main and dipped beams

I used to run 55/100 watt bulbs, and going from main back to dipped beam was like someone turned the lights out  this is exacerbated if dipped beam is poor ....... I would suggest getting the most powerfull beams you can

Have you considered fitting some better bulbs??
i am gonna get some better normal bulbs for the zx.
i have some osram nightbreaker ones on the car so will be getting some similar for the bike.they give out a more whiter light and are brighter than standard.

Just put uprated bulbs in the bike, same watts at first, you only need to change the lights if the beam pattern is no good. Is this on the Ninja? I'm guessing it is because the SV is not having any mods....
