Looking at a 125 for the missus, been recommended a dirt bike style machine on the fact that she is quite tall. I know nothing abut dirtbikes most of the ones on Autotrader are superbyke replicas of KTMs and Aprilias. Are they any good or are they as naff as i expect them to be? does she want a Supermoto or a enduro with road tyres...as you can probably tell im completely clueless so please talk to me as you would explain it to a 5 yr old child!!
Many Thanks

Does she want to go fast and get her leg out supermoto style or does she just want to learn to ride a bike and enjoy herself without feeling out of her depth? I know Deej uses CCM's for his training courses and they are good all round dirtbike styled bikes but are very user friendly. Otherwise i would go for a Suzuki 125 trail bike they used to be TS or TS-X's i think but that is going back to the eighties cos I'm old

If she doesn't want a trail bike, my son is 5'11" ish and seems to find a Yamaha YBR125 OK
The Suzuki is a DR125 now Badger

If you want reliability, stick to Japanese

Forget the Chinese stuff, best 125 Trail bike will be Japanese, DT125R or a KMX125 were probably the most recent.
Depending on her age, probably worth checking the insurance as one of these will be alot dearer than a CG125 etc.
Is she looking to pass test & keep the 125 or to get something bigger? If it's the latter, I wouldnt bother with a decent 125 trail bike just to learn on - if she's looking to stay with a 125 then get one of the above, still pretty decent day to day bikes but take your time to find an original unmolested one.

Befor you rush into buying a trailie style machine take her around a few bike shops & let her try sitting on a variety of machines.
I've had loads of tall people doing CBT etc on Honda CG125's & Suzuki GS125's with no comfort problems
