What do you recommend and why?
GoPro seems pricey
What else is out there?
Anyone used one of these?

Go pro are just about to release there new range of cameras with a budget version also.
There is also drift, contour, sony, mivi, turnigy, and jvc are just releasing one!
There is so much choice out there it just depends on what you would like.
Go pros are good as you will always have support, but its a square box.
I use contours as do everything I want it for and really simple to use.
shoot a true 60fps and to me fit much better helmet mounted.
As for the one you posted up I havent heard much about them
if your after a well performing action camera for budget price, then the turnigy might be worth a look,
(There about £60 but doesnt do a true 60fps) they have just released a wifi one also for a bit more.
whats your budget? Just remember mounts arent cheap if need to swap etc.
And other accessories you may need

I don't really want to spend a lot...
Under 200 ideally
Lots of older GoPros on eBay as bundle deals inc mounts etc
I know nothing about 4k, fps, etc
I want to record the odd winter run, then next year be up to date for bigger runs etc

For that sort of figure you can get alot for your money!!
Depends on what you want,
Would you like it bike or helmet mounted, water resisitant of water proof?
I will use my contour for another couple of years then prob look at a gopro 4,
Only because of the camera facilities also,

Water proof sounds good
And ideally I'd like to be able to switch between helmet and bike mounted

I bought the Turnigy one but from the manufacturer so markings are different. I found it difficult explaining what the mega ride was like and thought it would be good to have video next time. Does the job fine for that. If you wanted footage to analyse riding style 60 frames per second would be good and this one does not (really) do that. Otherwise it's fine.
I suspect the battery would last longer on the GoPro. Mine lasted 3 hours and comes with a spare. Fine for me.
Oh, and there is some rattling from those springs in the waterproof housing at certain engine speeds.
Remember this one comes with all the mountings you will need but I believe others they are extra. The only thing I would have liked is one suited to my (chunky) wing mirrors.

i think all the fancy stands and grips you can get from gopro will fit your camera case

The gopro and turnigy mounts are compatible.
Just some people say they need filing so rough up the surface to grip better.
The only thing about the gopro camera is they dont do a specific adapter for a bsp/tripod mount.
Needs an adapter ring to go onto the camera.

Last year I bought 2 of the Hitachi ones from Argos they were £60 each, myself and some friends all have them and have used them at Rockingham and other places.
They are basically a go pro copy.
Easy to use, come with plenty of brackets & accessories can fault them for the price.
