Thinking about a planned trip next year I was looking at intercoms. Not keen to spend lots but a few long trips without them might be a bit annoying after the first 1000 miles.

The only absolute recommendations I've found so far are for the Scala's. The Interphones look good though and slightly cheaper maybe. I'm pretty sure I've seem someone on a rideout with an Interphone so I thought I'd ask for any experiences.

We can face up to £200 if we have to but if we spend less we get to eat out more on the way up!

If anyone has tried any of the generic cheap ones (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00M ... d_i=468294) I'd be interested as well. Bought a phone of a similar type 18 months ago and it has been well worth the silly price.

Currently using scala blu tooth and is excellent. Can talk upto about 80mph. And good battery life.Originally bought the cheapo ones to see how we got on with intercoms. Worked well but not when they got wet. Stopped working after a year. But couldn't complain for the price. The scala is expensive but I think they are worth it.

I have those exact same cheap ones and tbh they have been perfect for what I needed, rider/pillion chats and music & sat nav.

I only tried a couple of phones calls, both of which were a little difficult but they were at motorway speeds.

Quality and battery life were both very good in my opinion, although I have never tried others to compare

It does seem worth trying those ones first and if they don't last I'll at least know if I want better ones. Hopefully though, going by your experience, I will be happy with the cheap ones. Thanks for the comment.

Definitely Scala. I've had the Interphone F4 and although it was good it was just too quiet (might just be my exhaust!) Scala is just as easy to use but the the audio is far superior. If you're ever up Launceston direction I'd be happy to let you try them both out

I went for the basic scala Q 1, very pleased with all it does.
It's my first intercom and my only problem is remembering the combinations of button presses to get the different functions. Chatting is very easy though.
I like the no wires (Bluetooth) connectivity to pillion and gadgets with auto volume level.
