What's the general consensus on the subject of headcams and alike, it's fun to watch film of your ride through winding country roads but there seems to be a growing trend that once only cyclist were once accused of, going out with the intention of filming other road users and often exagerating or encouraging situations that might otherwise dismissed, all for the sake of uploading onto youtube in order to make someone look bad.
Do you and would you wear one on your ride and if so, why?

Personally, if I were going to use one, I would have it mounted on the bike and in such a way as to not see the instruments .....

I saw one chap today with a camera on the side of the helmet that made him look like a Borg. Whilst not a problem around town, once out on the road I would have thought wind drag on one side of the head would induce a neck-ache after a while. Also, I don't know what adverse effect one might have on a helmets integrity in the event of an off .....

If you have to record it, hide them out of sight on the Bike.

Mine is on the fairing above the headlight. Means it vibrates sometimes but I can ignore it. Good fun for special trips (Jennings, mega-ride) but I agree it could make you ride differently if you used it on a ride with friends. I am thinking of using mine as a dash cam just in case of idiots but as Billy says it could be a problem if you ever do anything slightly illegal (not that I do of course).

I used to have a small cam mounted under the nosecone. Still got a view of what was going on, it was just out of sight if stopped.

I have a couple of helmet cams, wonderful things for a spirited ride, especially if they are discrete enough of quick release,
I have been followed by the police where a quick dismount I thought was appropriate. All my spirited rides stay on my computer and shared with people I was riding with or friends via phone or email and always clear the camera shortly after,

Only legal videos, (Isle of Mann mountain or track days etc) get shared via youtube and such like.

I use a headcam as evidence of any incident that may happen towards my safety while riding and there's plenty of that nearly everyday. With camera footage it's no longer a case of your word versus there's!" also, I enjoy footage for my own family entertainment and sometimes "road safety educational videos" I enjoy preparing.
As always, common sense prevails so putting erm.. spirited footage on youtube is a big no no!

There are plenty of video Ideas on youtube to explore paying attention to which country said footage has been captured and nature of event. Even bikesafe and the police have video clips for road safety on youtube and how do we assume they captured that lot without some sort of on board cameras!

Unless you are being anti social and attracting attention then I see no harm in being equipped with head cams etc for enjoyment and sharing a good rideout with someone. I've been on a few previous rideouts where the entire event was filmed (not by me) and posted on Vimeo with no complaints from either parties! All we asked was number plates being blurred out on any public footage. Heck, even Google earth does that as well now!

I tend to wear one whenever I can. You never know when you might encounter something you had wished you had recorded.

I tend to mount it on the bike as on the head it can be too much a neck ache with the air resistance it causes.

Moose made some valid points that got me thinking and am going to try bike mounting my Drift HD on the bike instead.
