Data tool veto evo

Bought a fazer with a data tool veto evo. The remote was not with the bike but the bike starts and runs fine. Is it possible to just buy a replacement remote and programme it or would the unit have been disabled as it starts without it now. Don't know anything about this alarm apart from it was fitted in 2002 and I have the certificate.

If it ok as it is, I'd leave well alone.

You can buy a remote, but quite pricey. I have one with which you can experiment (at your own risk) and purchase if it works.
Reprogramming involves lifting the alarm cover and adding a couple of wiring connections.
Yours has quite likely been by-passed due to problems (also by adding a little wiring loop).
Can you not get hold of the previous owner ??

Cheers Simon. Not really sure what I need yet. Will let you know when I start using it. Test end of November.

I have previously had a Data tool veto evo. I thought it best to have a second remote just in case. Bought a second hand one from eBay and re-programmed it. Easy to do as Mellow said -temporary jump wires, took about 15 minutes.

If you need an alarm to get insured on a bike in this part of the world then you must live in an absolute shithole.....alarms are nothing but a big pain in the arse.

Shithole calling (goddam centre of Bristol).
Taint the alarm, but the immobiliser. Alarm is just a put-off. Don't NEED it for insurance but it does save quite a few £££ very year.
As with a disc lock or chain, the casual opportunistic thief will go elsewhere.

Don't seem to make any difference these days. Bloody things go off and noone takes any notice. Insured my MT for less than my Tiger.

My point exactly....if they want your bike they will turn up in a van and throw it in the back and off they go.no bugger takes any notice of an alarm going off.

I'm in the "ditch it" camp.
Hateful things. Kill batteries, cause starting issues, and no real theft deterrent.
Better to use a visibly deterrent (chain, discloc, etc.)
I was told I had to have one on the MV, but when it packed up (as they all do) I chased the insurance company and they finally relented and let me remove it ...... For no additional premium!
