Does anyone play?
Was thinking of hosting an evening over the silly season.
Not talking poker as don't know the rules. There are other games we can play with similar outcomes though.
Anyone interested?

Balderdash is brilliant.
Trivial Pursuits perhaps.
Or Happy Families even.

Something based on a game called newmarket.
Sensible stakes.

Had quite forgotten Newmarket.
Played loads of cards after cricket, bowls, tennis etc. 3 & 9 card brag, Nap, Solo and (indeed) Newmarket.
Then bridge took over my life completely.

Newmarket with a round stake and also a blind stake makes it fun.

Nope, standard deck of cards. Lowest red's, lowest black kind of thing.
First one out wins one pot. Then turn the blind card over, if someone has played that in the hand then they win that pot. If not, then it rolls over to the next hand. Very simple to play.

For the technically minded, it's exactly the same as '7s' but different.

It's about as much the same as 7's as a goose is the same as a matchbox.

I use to play that as a kid with my whole family at Xmas - we called it "Find the Lady".
You try and play your queen and hope it's the same suit as the blind card, would love to play that again, and win...
