Went to Motogp there last year. Best circuit for bike security I have ever seen.

Have you been before? I used to go every year with a bunch of mates but it’s quite scary when I think how long ago that was

(‘86 - ‘92, and again in ‘96) I dare say it’s unrecognisable compared with those days, and encouraging to read goatpants saying that bike security is now good. It was a thieves’ paradise in the old days; anything not securely locked simply vanished. If you’re camping, ensure you keep all valuables such as passport, wallet, keys etc on you at all times, and lock your helmet to something if you can. We found the best method was for one of the gang to take a car, and they carried all the tents and stuff down and back, and all our riding gear was locked out of sight in the boot while on the campsite.
I hope you find some riding buddies and enjoy the trip. A tip for riding down from the port - take the N roads (their equivalent of A roads), far more interesting than the more recently added autoroutes (no péage either), but watch out for speed traps on the way home (and wave to the locals who come out to watch the bikes pass through the villages)

Our group was relieved of all tents, sleeping bags and camping kit when I went to brands in 99. Whilst we were watching the racing some assholes took everyone's stuff. There were 10 of us that rode up too.
Made the ride home easier though.

Scotty, they spent quite a bit on shower/toilet blocks around the circuit 6 or 7 yrs ago. Massive improvement.
Of where we used to camp, the "concentration" in Houx Annexe still exists, but the main bit further on is now car park for the Antares development. A lock of the back of the circuit has been developed.
We always rode down the west coast of the peninsula from Cherbourg to Granville, then falaise-argentan-alencon-LeMans.
Friday night in the town centre can be a giggle, but depending on where you camp, take the tram in. Much easier.
Have fun, wish I could join you, but I already have commitments that weekend.

Ooh, Friday night in the town centre - we used to go in for that but the CRS started getting a bit heavy-handed so we gave up on it in the end. Taking the tram in sounds like a good plan, better than having your bike vandalised by a baton-wielding CRS thug... (I've seen it happen, anything within range is a legitimate target) If you are there, make the most of the spectacle (a bit like Douglas prom at the TT, but more French), and be prepared to make a sharp exit if the CRS are deployed....
