There's a few counties doing spot checks on drivers and also doing basic eyesight checks.

If you can't read a number plate at 65ft then they take your license there and then.

Hopefully the old bill won't be limiting the eyesight tests to crumblies - I've seen some shocking driving from younger people that can only be attributable to either myopia or plain stupidity. Unfortunately they've yet to devise a stupidity test and threshold, but we can hope....

I've known people in the past who should have worn glasses but choose not to for reasons of vanity - little point if you end up in jail for killing someone you couldn't see on the road [-x

Good to know where all 3 of Devon and Cornwall Police Officers are at the moment, explains why I haven't seen any down here for a while!!
