Mechanic day - Saturday June 29th

Post by billinom8s »

Time to try a shout out to those that have brains what know older bike style stuff. :ympray: :ympray:

I've been (very) slowly rebuilding a 1987 Kawasaski GT550 but have now hit a bump in the road. Got a running issue with it am at a point where I can't see the issue for looking L-) L-) X( X( X(

So i'm looking for some help please.

I'll of course provide the tea/coffee/ bacon&egg sarnies biccies etc to the tech team that turn up to shine a light on the head scratcher and help me get the bloody thing running. ~x( ~x( ~x( ~x(

Kim is out for the day so it'll be pretty quiet other than some decent tunes on the sound machine and hopefully the rumble of a 4 into 1.

Anyone able to help?????

Thanks in advance.

You may watch from a distance as it may be to much for you to handle without supervision :-bd

Have you noticed that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster is a maniac ?

It's got fuel.

Supply runs to the carbs, occasionally it'll catch and turn over for a bit, then die. When it was running there was no throttle response.

Like I said, it's more than likely a simple, face palming solution but my poor old eyes have shut down to seeing it. Humph.

Does it have the vacuum fuel tap on the bottom of the tank??

And double check your firing order in which way you have the leads on the coils.

Does sound like a carb issue, have you checked the float heights?
How about the jets, are they all clean/clear?

Sounds like an 80's problem.

Might be worth putting a call into Doc E Brown

=))

i thought that the only real problems with 80's were driving slow, pissing yourself and questionable dress sense.

isn't that right Phil?

Did it run when you got it or did you buy it as a non-runner?

Have you tried turning up the idle speed screw?
Is the choke working, as in is the mechanism going the whole way over - my hornet 600 did that to me, when I though it was fully on (handle bar lever) it hadn't actually moved the slider across all the carbs far enough.
