Re: Silverstone Motogp
Some big changes i hope. The first 2 3rds ain't so bad its the stupid mickey mouse section near the end of the lap i think the MotoGP boys will hate.
Not bad for them loosing the F1 and gaining MotoGP.

Re: Silverstone Motogp
yeah no worries moose, the deal was done behind doningtons backs, they knew nothing about definite negotiations with silverstone just the rumours like the rest of us, they werent even allowed to put a tender bid in as slipperystone offered dorna twice what donington were currently paying. good luck to silverstone as they'll need it,donny made very little profit directly from motogp so what hope have silverstone got when theyve paid twice as much for the rights
doesnt make muc difference to me as i'll just swap my free motogp tickets for f1 from 2010 so get a extra race meeting in without the wife being able to complain
heres a copy of the official donny press release that my big sis sent to me earlier today
MotoGP disappointment for Donington
Donington Park Chief Executive Simon Gillett has today expressed his “disappointment” at the news that Silverstone will stage the British round of MotoGP in 2010. The news follows a jubilant week for the Leicestershire circuit, which was granted planning permission for extensive redevelopment last Thursday, enabling the venue to host Fomula One in 2010 and beyond.
This year’s British GP – featuring home-grown talent James Toseland in the premier class and Scott Redding, Bradley Smith, Matthew Hoyle and Danny Webb in the 125GP support class – will be the 23rd consecutive premier motorcycle race hosted in Britain by Donington Park.
The circuit owners reputedly bought the rights to host the championship in 1987 for just one pound, after Silverstone seemingly took a decision to distance itself from all motorcycle sport for a significant period of time. Since then, Donington Park and its staff have remained committed to two-wheel motorsport in all disciplines, with MotoGP forming the pinnacle of its motorcycle sport activity and are annoyed that DORNA did not give the circuit the courtesy to renew the agreement, despite reassurances to the contrary.
It is believed that the decision by series rights holders Dorna was made as a result of commercial benefit to MotoGP, with Silverstone speculated to have doubled the existing rights fee paid by Donington Park. However, circuit owner Simon Gillett resisted criticising Silverstone owners, the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC), despite numerous criticisms levelled at him and Donington Park by club members regarding their capabilities to host F1 in 2010.
“Given the need for a flagship event in 2010 to replace Formula One, we understand the importance to Silverstone of gaining the rights to MotoGP from a business perspective,” said Gillett. “However, since 1987 we have continually invested in MotoGP, emotionally as well as financially.
“We would like to wish Silverstone the best of luck with the required construction and all of the work involved in staging a top flight motorcycle race and ask them to take care of an event that we have invested heavily in since we took it over with just 18,000 people attending each race.
“We are proud to have hosted the championship for 22 years and our continuing passion and enthusiasm for the sport will ensure that our commitment and dedication for staging this year’s event will remain just as high. However, I’d also like to reassure the fans that we will still be staging world motorcycle racing at the highest level with our continued support of the Superbike World Championship.
“The ongoing growth of this burgeoning series with an ever increasing number of manufacturers and British riders will help to ensure that it provides close and exciting racing that should attract support and interest to equal that of MotoGP in Britain. We are also continuing our support of the British Superbike Championship and two-wheel club racing to prove our dedication and commitment at all levels of the sport.“
