Tyre repair or replace?

Was about to head out for a ride today and noticed a screw in the rear tyre

It was fairly flush with the tread and it hadn't lost pressure, but unscrewing it lead to a load of hissing so I tightened it back up for now.

Does this look like something that could easily be repaired? If so, where is good in/around Exeter?

Or is it getting close to the tread limit and time for a new tyre anyway? Again, where's recommended around here?

I've done about 2300 miles since I got the bike, and they weren't new then anyway so is has probably done 4000+. Being new to bikes I'm not sure how much more life this one had!

It looks like it's fairly well worn and whilst repairs are OK for the price of a new tyre is it really worth it??

What bike/tyre size is it??

Judging by the wear, I guess that's a front tyre? At that level of wear I'd replace it. You can see it's already got the chamferred wear pattern forming, and the leading edges are already about at the worn point.

Cheers, it's an F800GS and a 150/70R17 Michelin Anakee 2 on the rear. Looking at pictures of new ones online I think these are pretty worn now?

May not be repairable as it's gone in at an angle. A vertical hole near the centre of the tyre can often be repaired. A pro will not repair it if they think it dangerous.

That tyre looks not worth doing anyway. Get a nice new shiny one - you know you deserve it.

I'd agree with MellowYellow. You don't want to find out the hard way that the repair wasn't a success. If in at an angle there may be potential for a split. Not worth the risk just to save a few quid.

Right, that's decision made to replace it and the front is looking pretty bare too so might as well do the two at the same time. Any recommendations for supply and fit in Exeter? Or is it best to buy the tyres online and just take them somewhere to fit? Again, any recommendations for somewhere good but cost effective? Is it cheaper to take the wheels off myself or do most places do that for you?

Might also be worth replacing the tubes in there, is that something any tyre place is likely to have in stock?

Either protyre or the works will fit new tyres to loose wheels. Protyre is usually a safe bet as getting limited into places for bike tyres.

Are they tubed or tubeless tires?
Just have a phone round.
If you want to supply your own try openeo or tyre leader for tyres

Cheers, I'm new to bikes so keen to go on local recommendations! They're tubed rims on the F800 apparently but it seems most tyres can be fitted with tubes anyway
