No, you get a 30 quid fine, and pulled the minute a police car has the opportunity.
You also get a long lecture for your troubles.
If you commute on your bike or are on it all the time then your going to get a lot of unnecassary grief.
...and If you have one so that you can do a runner everytime the police want to pull you then you are living on borrowed time.
Start getting them repeatedly and allegedly they can withdraw your registration and you have to get issued with a Q plate. I dont know anybody this has happened to though.

cant they take your illegal plate away too, and leave your bike illegal to ride home? sure i read that a while back, along with them being able to confiscate race cans from road bikes? again though i dont know of anyone who's had this done...
