TBH I don't think it is 33bhp but it is restricted. I got the restrictors from the the earlier xj600 which was 70 bhp while mine 60, and it had bigger carbs.
Thats what i think the smoke might be, unburnt fuel from the restrictors.
And I still have a good 30mm chicken strip even though they are only like 130 tyres.

No, thats oil smoke Smoking on the over-run is usually a sign of valve seals going ..... look on the bright side, it just means that the valve stems/top end are well lubricated

yep defo oil smoke.
at least anyone following u will have their bike rust proofed.
mind u it is a bit off putting following u into a bend

I was, too - on the Summer rideout. Steve came back across the moor from Barnstaple to Plymouth with us and he pretty much kept up with me and George quite nicely. Ok, so we were getting tired and I was two-up but I'm going to call him superglue because every time I thought he'd disappeared from my mirrors, I'd look up and there he was again!

Hope the bike holds out, Steve. You clearly love riding and took some really nice lines through the bends (and a few squiffy ones!).

Seven years from now when you're 25 and hurling your GSXR750 (or whatever) through the twisties faster than the old b'stards, we'll all look back at these posts and chuckle. Just remember to take it at your own speed and within your own comfort zone, not someone else's.

Nice to hear you guys had a good time. I very nearly came along but Exeter is a little far to get back to Plymouth if it's a late one on a week night.

I got back from plymouth bout 7ish and i couldve carried riding on all night

I actually saw a grey divvy near tavistock,but due to the lack of smoke and a mature looking rider,i guessed it wasnt you steve

On the summer ride i thought he had tied a rope to my bike because everytime i looked in the mirror he was right there, balls bigger than an elephant he has

Haha [censored] me, cheers for the nice words, but still got a lot to learn, like not to brake mid corner run wide and miss headges by about 3 inches.
Cant wait for my 400 to be finished, divvy isnt exactly the most agile bike. 200kgs

Sometimes i wish i had the gonads to find my limits like that, but i'm reluctant to bin my only transport. By the time smokey blows up (hopefully without taking you down with it!) you'll have a more appropriate machine!

I had the use of a gs500 whilst mine was in for service, & i was suprised how differently i rode it. Felt like a gutless phutt-phutt toy in comparison to the Hornet, so i kept it nailed everywhere...but suddenly realised that i was faster on tight corners than on my own bike , i guess it's because there wasn't that nagging feeling that if it slips out from under me i don't get to work tomorrow.

BTW, after the repairs from your detour, it didn't look too bad. How soon did you have it on the road?

Yea its my only transport as well, which sort of makes it worse.
I do feel sorry for it really, but hey it shouldn't be so gutless. But it is nice to rag a smaller bike gives you a scence of achievment.
Umm, it took about a week to source the parts, which was from a breakers in south brent, althogether cost 200 for tank fairing clocks and some other stuff i broke. And once i had the parts took about 3 days to put it together, 1 handed.
I think I should have a new bike next april, when i can claim back 2 years of being charged emergency tax. last time i checked iv paid 1200 in tax that i shouldnt of had to pay so by april i reckon about 2 grand
