Jug_Inspector wrote: Jun 22nd, '19, 11:21 Did it run when you got it or did you buy it as a non-runner?

Have you tried turning up the idle speed screw?
Is the choke working, as in is the mechanism going the whole way over - my hornet 600 did that to me, when I though it was fully on (handle bar lever) it hadn't actually moved the slider across all the carbs far enough.
Bought as a runner, just nasty
Yep it ran and revved
Choke works, it's a slider no the carbs itself, no fancy handlebar controls no this puppy, you've got to reach down and move the slider.
Tried the idle screw, didn't seem to make any difference.

It was running, revved ok but hadn't been run for a bit.

So what have you done to the engine / carbs since getting it?

Took them out, cleaned through, put back into bike.

Changed from individual air filters to air box.

Jetting could now be out. Probably need to check carbs have standard jets in, or put cone filters back on to confirm if this is the problem.

I don't think the previous owner would have tampered.

What are you calling no.4? I thought vacuum take off for fuel tap came from 1 or 2 .... 1 is to the left as you're sat on it. To be honest doesn't really matter as long as the other three takeoffs are plugged.
As said above, try refitting the cone filters just to check. I'm pretty certain my gpz wouldn't run without rejecting. Looking at the carb inlet/bellmouth, does it have a un-screwable brass jet? (It shouldn't if it's stock)

Could even try just removing the panel filter from the standard air box and/or also leave the air box cover open, that should pretty closely match the effect of cone filters, or near enough to see if that effects the starting/running.

Vac is fitted to the far right as you're sat on it, same as when I got it and the others are blanked off.

I've spoken to a guy about the Bike who deals in all things GT and he said they always ran like a bag o shite with the individual cones on, to run smooth they had to have the airbox fitted.

No brass jet.

There isn't that much of an air filter in the box, it's new it's just not what you would think compared to today's filter sizes.

Yeh, just had a google so I can see what you're dealing with.

Still worth trying it with the filter element removed as that will help to indicate if the carbs have been re-jetted in an attempt to make the cones work better.
The other option is to bite the bullet and pull the carbs again, you need to know what jets are in there and see if any are not stock.
