Re: Fair sentence or not?
I saw this as well. The thing that has let him down and really got him in trouble was repeated lying in the hope that he had got away wit it. The original crime of a wheelie on a public high way would have got a slap on the wrist and maybe a speeding fine (and from the photo you can see he was actually not that close to the guy on the pedal bike) but the moment you pile on the extra that he is trying to say that he sold the bike and that it wasn't him riding then starting to produce false documentation to try and support his lie. Thats what sent him to jail.

Re: Fair sentence or not?
He got done for being a smartarse tosser who thought he could lie his way out. If he'd been a normal person and put his hands up and pleaded guilty to being a tosser on the road would have been different. Mind you, whether we like it or not, the authorities do not like wheelies so he'd have got a mighty slap not a light tap.

Re: Fair sentence or not?
Yeah, the wheelie would have been 3 points, speeding, no way of knowing, dangerously close? Did the guy send pics in of everyone that didn't cross the white line to pass him?
It was the lengths he went to deny the fact it was him that screwed him. Plus the fact the jury were probably folks who are pissed off with bikers using their local roads for play time so would of been keen to send a message.
Denying it was him.
producing false documents.
Maybe he was a repeat offender?
Either way, 6 months prison is bloody scary for it.
Be warned people, every Lycra clad super hero is now going to be sending in pics to operation snap if you upset them.

Just a note here about wheelies guys.. they are not dealt with lightly by the authorities.
They are classed as dangerous driving, so a compulsory retest and a ban for 1 year min.

It's points and a fine for getting your knee down too.
At least I'm safe from that then!

Knee down can in many circumstances be defended successfully. You'll need an expert witness i.e. a long serving Police m/cyclist to explain that you have control of the bike and the kneedown is in fact increasing the contact patch which enhances control and vehicle stability. Or be an old fart with mobility problems (and is scared to go any further than 5 degrees from vertical) who can't move about for the all important "look how bog my willy is" kneedown

Re: Fair sentence or not?
No chance of me ever getting my knee down as for wheelies never seen the point of them.
Perverting the course of justice is a real biggy, tbh if you're dumb enough to try that trick they'll throw the book at you. It would be interesting to know what his punishment would have been if he'd been nicked for the driving offences alone.

If he just admitted it was him rather than fannying around he'd of probably just got 28day ban and hefty fine.
He should be like me and when pulling wheelies only loft it about a inch above the tarmac..... safe
