Wheel hub as removed from bike Cleaned ready for surgery Left bearing OMG Right bearing, inner race and what balls were left popped out so stud welded in outer race for removal OMFG Spacer between bearings - this should have been clean Right side outer spacer with the one from my B-King for comparison. B-K one worn to 31.8mm at the dust seal region Busa one down to 31.1mm - both bikes have done about 30k miles. No wonder crap was getting past the dust seal Axles for comparison of dust seal regions by left side bearing I've fitted All Balls brand fully sealed bearings and the outer spacer and axle from the B-K. The bearings removed were only sealed one side, which is not stock fitment? New spacer and axle on back order and I'll get the worn components from the Busa repaired.

And I only noticed a problem when it got to this state

Every time one of my wheels comes out I pack waterproof grease in to the small space between the seal and the bearing (even though the bearings themselves are sealed). It's a habit I got into from my trail bike as I've found that area can allow water to gather and then sit, but that's probably because it often got ridden through rivers and then jet washed to death.

I do that, I also pop the plastic real around the call races themselves, to pack the grease in. There is usually a token blob in there, nothing more.

A timely reminder to me to do a comprehensive bearing check. And a couple of good tips from Messrs Jug and nom8s too ; I'll be using Volvo Penta marine grade grease, still on my shelf from a boat owning past. And I never use a jetwash - ever.

Who ever welded that stud in there needs to walk away from the welder also.

Why do a half assed job?
What's the point in doing anything to below the best of your ability.

Would have just welded around the outer race and let the thermal shrinkage do the hard work.

Local garage mechanic is so sorry he's not perfect. I'm truly thankful for his piss poor welding otherwise I wouldn't have got that outer race out.
