Ok not the actual tankpad but my bike has the matching blobs on the side of the tank and i want to get rid of them. Does anyone know how to do it without trashing the paintwork underneath. As my bike is a 53 reg they could have been on there for upto 4 and a half years.
I have thought about heating it up a bit but given it is the petrol tank i changed my mind

I use a hot air gun like you use for stripping paint. You don't need to use it for long though. Just be sensible and carefull. Then with the sticky film underneith just rub off with your thumb or if stubbon use Wurth Industry Cleaner, which if I'm right is like brake cleaner. Deej?
I've taken countless pads and blobs of and had no problems yet....touch wood. Just be carefull heating up.
As you've not done it before you may be better off using a hair dryer. If it gets too hot to touch the pad then don't let it get any hotter but you don't need it that hot, just warm.
Have fun

I'm about to put a new pad on mine (bought from taylors that day), i'm gonna try the hair dryer on it, part of it had broken off & damaged a small area of paint, t-cut should solve it i hope.
bit of mildly interesting banter folks; I kid you not, i've actually witnessed a guy attempt to weld a holed tank with a mig, nothing wrong with that i hear you say, however; the tank was still on the bike......wait for it.......with fuel in. NUMPTY. i stopped him before things went noisy.

couldnt possibly comment until july mate.
hot air gun will remove it,then brake cleaner/active glass cleaner/industry cleaner or probably even carb cleaner will remove the glue

If ya wanna remove glue deposits try surgical spirits.
Shifted all the stubborn tar deposits too.
Even great on silicone around the house

Thanks I will try it on saturday. I just need to find a hairdryer.

If I'm not on the ride out on Sunday you know it all went horribly wrong
