as per the title, I need to know if the ZX9r front end I just found with 6 pot brakes etc, will fit into my yokes that are setup for the 400 forks, with 4 pot brakes
so I need to know the diameter of the fork legs where they are clamped in the yokes
also if possible the bolt centres for the calipers, ideally would like to keep my 4 pot tokicos, only because they are fully rebuilt, hopefully they will bolt onto the same spacing as the 6 pots??
anyone with zx9r USD forks, measure something for me please

Re: anyone with zx9r USD forks, measure something for me ple
Can't answer the fork tube dia question, but pretty certain the 6 pot caliper bolt centres are 90mm ...... the same as the GSXR 4 pot Nissin calipers .....
(at least thats what the ones on my bike are, and they came off a ZX7R
)

Of all the things I have ever lost, I miss my mind the most .....

well thats one very good start, thanks, so at least the brake calipers should be swappable.
last time I buy things without fully looking into it, and trusting the seller to either know what they selling, or tell the truth! LOL
now all I got to hope is that the bottom yoke clamps onto something resembling 51mm

I think you'll find that the ZX9RB1 to B4 USD forks are the same upper and lower clamping diameters that the ZX7R forks are. They are larger than the 400 forks, and will not fit the 400 yokes. The 400 discs may be the same offset, but I seem to think they are only 300mm diameter whereas the 7/9R uses a 320mm disc. You'll need either ZX7 or ZX9 yokes to fit the forks in, and you'll then need the matching wheel, as the 400 wheel will not take the larger bearings to fit the bigger spindle of the 7/9R. The calipers should go straight on, although you may need to put a thin shim in between the caliper and fork mount to centralise the caliper on the disc, os shim the disc out. Whenever you do a front end conversion it is much quicker and easier to use a complete front end, it saves a lot of messing around, especially with Kawasakis of that age. Suzuki stuff is much more interchangable between bikes, which is one reason why I use a lot of it on builds.

oh pooo
thats not good, my yokes are for the 400 forks diameter, 51mm body
now Im really stuffed, 2" thick slab yokes with 14" between centres dont exactly grow on trees LOL, £500 of alloy work in them alone
hmm time for a major rethink.

as you can see, its not the sort of thing thats easy to just remake
18 months of work is about to go down the pan

There looks to be enough material in there to bore them out to take the larger fork diameters.

Re: anyone with zx9r USD forks, measure something for me ple
thats the next option, although the zx9r forks are 55mm, mine are 51mm, should be ok, but need to look at the clamping in the bottom yoke, also whats required to change the fork tops, as i had to custom make new tops that allow me to screw the legs into the top yoke, and have that smooth clampless look
found a complete front end, with 6 pots, top yoke converted to handlebar clamps etc, in Exeter for £250, currently trying to find the money, then maybe over the summer sort out the money to buy more billet for the yokes and spacers to make another set
but have also got some random springs on the way, bought a few from ebay, ones that were couple of quid etc.
then maybe over the summer sort out the money to buy more billet for the yokes and spacers to make another set
there appears to be quite a bit of room inside the fork legs, handling isnt an issue for me, but keeping the front end up is. LOL anyway thats enough of my personal problems

Re: anyone with zx9r USD forks, measure something for me ple
looks like all is not lost
managed to work my way through the net and find alist of other fork springs the same OD that will physically fit, just need to find a set from a heavy bike and then see what happens
took the forks apart, wow that was easy, not sure they should come apart that easy, but I imagine that putting them back together will be a totally different game LOL
so if anyones got a cheap set of springs from 41mm harley forks, or SV650, or cbr1000F, GL1200, Z1300
then please gimme a shout LOL
