Hi folks, i'm Gav, and i live in Chudleigh, near newton abbot. I passed both the mod 1 and 2 tests on monday just gone (7th) but i'm yet to get a bike. I am looking, but the missus has spent all of my savings
I'll be looking for a bandit or similar, once i've got some money back in my account

Hi ya and welcome along. Sell the dog, bed and tv. You won't need or want any of them once you start out on your bike.

I've already got plans for a 5 day weekend ride out somewhere with a friend of mine, probably somewhere in wales with a couple of tents etc. Sadly, selling the missus/kids/dog etc on Ebay is apparently illegal (I've tried), so i'm back to old fashioned saving for now. I'll be looking for a bike on finance hopefully, but i'm having trouble with not being on the electoral role yet (I've only lived here for 2 years

) so i'll see how that goes. Hopefully i'll be riding by mid December.

Bandit 6 or 12? If your thinking of a 600, take a look at a Honda Hornet - much nicer bike than a Bandit ;)
Oh, and hello from around the corner in Kingsteignton

It'll be a 600/650 most likely as it's my first bike. Pretty much the only experience of riding I've got is about 10 mins on my friends CB500 about 6 years ago, maybe half an hour on his GSXR1100 Slingshot, and whatever time I put in on the training school's bikes (125 vanvan, XR 125, ER500, SV650 and the bandit 600), so maybe another week's worth, and about 200 miles of around town stuff.
I am itching though, I'm surprised at how much more i'm noticing since passing and I think I actually NEED a bike now rather than just want one for economic runs too and from work (my car is a 540i, 4.4 V8

). I realised this pretty much on my way home from Ace rider last weekend, gave the car a boot full on the slipway to the A38 from drumbridges (Exeter bound), and it just felt sooo slooooooooooowwww. And my car is no slouch either (110 by the bottom

. I don't normally drive that fast, but 50 on a bike feels way faster

, and the bike picks up so much faster too. Give it a year and i'll be hooning everywhere

Finally got my bike today, it's a Suzuki RF600R, 94 L Reg. It's nothing special, as it's just a starter bike, and something to get me to work and back whilst saving me a small fortune (my car is a 4.4 V8).
It needs a new rear tyre though, does anyone know where I can get one fitted in Newton Abbot (or nearby)? How much is a decent tyre likely to cost? it's got Pirelli's on at it the mo, so I'd probably replace like for like.
Here's a pic of what she looks like..

I thought I saw this heading into Teignmouth today going at a rate of knots
In Newton, go and see Ray at Teign tyres, he is pretty fair and can get most tyres. As for what to put on there, it's only limited by your budget and you will get 50 different answers from 50 different people.
Talk to the bloke who sells tyres and rides bikes or just go like for like until you want to develop.
BTW, sell the car.
