Wheee first long run !

Post by green_hodgeheg »

Took the z650 up to Oxfordshire to treat it to its new Harris pipe :)):
Am happy to report no real problems and a terrific run back in the sunshine (despite the Stonehenge jam - more fool me for not doing the Larkhill shuffle !)
Happy happy happy :D

There shall be a pic of the shiny new system tomorrow :-)
I keep think there's another bike behind me as it is much short than one we took off !

Is this one of the "Hyde" Harris pipes?

I had a genuine (mild steel) Harris pipe on a GPz1100, then on my Katana i had a one off made that copied Motad downpipes (better access to the oil filter) married to a copy of the Harris collector and can, all in stainless steel. Both sounded lovely 8)

Looks great!

Any particular reason for the rear shocks being fitted upside down?

Yes that is weird.
Nice pipe though and a clean bike. Didn't know they still made Harris pipes. I thought the brothers had sold the company.

I didn't know that ......... but the rights to the old "Works Collection" were sold/licensed to Norman Hyde many years ago.

So what's the story with the rear shock GH? I've never seen that before.

Ah yes. I was wondering if anyone would spot that. When used the right way up they are as wallowy as anything. I am on the lookout for replacements but I want something decent and I haven't got round to measuring up yet. I also want a box section ally swing arm (don't tell the bank manager).
The pipe came from Norman Hyde and I have to say the welding is not quite what it could be. We have photographed one bit where the tailpipe connecting spring locates and are waiting to hear back. The weld on the spring hook is holding it on more with luck than anything else.
Bike had a wee bath as I encountered floods on the Berkshire downs that were most murky and farm dieselly. Ick.

Check out what Hagon Shocks have to offer. They cover most bikes and if the Z650 isn't on their list (most unlikely) they'll be happy to supply generic shocks to suit - just make sure you have all the dimensions to hand when/if you phone.

Thanks ! I've had Hagon on a Z before and been most pleased with them. Bank manager will be happier with that option too..... :ymblushing:
